To whom it may concern,
I am seeking comment regarding the ongoing situation surrounding the community-driven website Imgur, following its acquisition by Medialab. According to extensive public feedback, amounting to hundreds of statements from long-standing community members, there is growing concern that the platform has experienced significant deterioration since the acquisition of Imgur by Medialab and the subsequent dismissal of the original Imgur team. Many users have described this trajectory using the term “enshittification,” a colloquialism that has gained traction in digital culture to describe the degradation of once-thriving online platforms due to excessive focus on profits at the expense of user-experience.
In light of these developments, I would appreciate clarification on the following points:
- Does Medialab intend to engage directly with the Imgur community to address these concerns?
- Will the company issue any formal statements of explanation, apology, or assurance regarding the platform’s future?
- Is there a strategic plan in place to restore and improve Imgur’s functionality and community trust, or is Medialab considering discontinuation of the site?
It is worth noting that the scale and intensity of user protest appear to be attracting international media attention. Notably, the figure of John Oliver has emerged as a symbolic focal point within the protest posts, and there is speculation that the issue may be featured in an upcoming segment of his program.
Given these circumstances, I would also like to ask if Medialab's investors should be concerned about reputational, financial or operational risks stemming from the perception that the company diminishes the value of its acquisitions rather than maintaining or enhancing them.
Your response will help inform ongoing coverage of this story and provide clarity to a concerned user base. I look forward to your commentary.
Sincerely,
VoidForScreaming
Or you could just email the CEO directly? Worked for me...

I’m kinda wondering… how much would it cost to buy Imgur from medialab? I wonder if we could get enough users to pool the funds to buy it and democratize it. Probably not, but it’s an interesting idea.

Send John Oliver flipping off Medialab while getting railed by the Hulk.
