I remember the day in my childhood when I learned the 'correct' pronunciation. I can't think of any fact I have ever learned that I have rejected so vehemently. TO THIS DAY, I continue to call it "dip-loh-DOKE-us", not "dih-PLOD-uh-cus" !

Yes it is not a dinosaur. It's a pterasaur. They're related to the dinosaurs but are not actual dinosaurs. Ichtyosaurs are even further away from being dinosaurs.
