Could you perhaps join a group aimed at people with similar interests? I joined a book club to make friends and it has paid off.
Sorry your friends are unsupportive. I know what that's like. (I literally went and joined the book club so that I wouldn't be so "dependent* on my best friend, who started acting weird and distant.)
