Yeah, stuff like this has happened IRL to my friends. I had a couple of friends, girls, who were inseparable. They drifted apart during college, one got pregnant, had a bad breakup with his boyfriend, moved in with her old friend.
‘bout five years later and to nobody’s great surprise they got married.
Interestingly, I vaguely recall them announcing at one point that they’re actually both asexual.

Not sure if the author actually intended it to read as "Mother Ocean" as in the English sense. The character's name "Umi" is a common(-ish) Japanese name, and literally just means ocean or sea. So her name is "Ocean" and she's going to be a mother -- Mother Ocean.

Yeah, Im always wary of this sort of thing, but considering the otherwise lgbt-positive theme I'm choosing to believe it's pro-choice still, because some women do make that choice. An acquaintance from my college years got pregnant, her boyfriend chickened out, but she decided to keep the child and arrange for it to be adopted. The entire club was surprised and even expressed that, yet she was adamant. The whole point of the pro-choice movement is that it's the woman's CHOICE.

The option was there, and people can believe what they want - that includes believing that the child had done nothing wrong. The issue comes when they try and force that issue on other people - from the way the comic is laid out, it doesn't seem like external factors contributed to the decision (IE, her parents seemed like they would pay for an abortion before she decided to have it)

Eh. Sorta? Honestly, I read it more as pro-choice, because at the end of the day it's Umi's decision to keep it. She chooses that. And while it's important to support access to abortions, ultimately the end goal is to support a woman's ability to choose for herself, not to abort everything.

"This child hasn't done anything wrong" "There is not such thing as a wasted life" but nothing to me as Umi wanting/desiring to be a mother or raise a child with Haru. To me came off as an obligation

I think the nuance might be different from our assumption of the American pro-choice vs pro birth bullshit. I do think there's a bit of lean towards the pro-birth side, but it might be more in response to the population crisis in Japan
