I was teaching my son about archery, and the best advise I got when I was learning also applied to life. For the thoughtful, see if you can map it to the 'two wolves' analogy for bonus points.
"What you aim for, is what you hit. Don't look at the arrow, look at your target."
Give people nothing but doom and gloom to focus on, and most will blindly dive right in. We are more ready to believe 'doom and gloom' than optimism these days. Unless you're uber-rich, of course, then you buy the success.
I got onto my mom because she said work was going to suck. I told her it would now. Because all you will do is look for the bad. I am far from an optimistic person. But I do believe negative thoughts will lead to negative outcomes. Our minds are simple and can usually be tricked rather easily.
There are about 2,450 active duty SEALs. I can't find any info on how long the average SEAL serves, but I would guess for most of them it's a career position. So I'd guess on the low end maybe 6,250 people who are or were SEALs.
Still wouldn't expect to have met *nearly* as many as most of us have.
