if it were only Trump there might be a chance since he's old, in poor shape and likely won't last too much longer. BUT

Trump is a poster boy for a larger movement in the background. it will carry on even when he has passed.

He's going to burn coal just to own the libs.

Accelerationism. They wish to rule over the ashes

We can build a complete motor car in less than 24 hours but we cannot ensure everyone has shelter, food and clean drinking water.

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Oh we absolutely could - but leadership and the wealthy choose not to...Poverty is a feature not a flaw

Natural Selection during the Trumpocene will reveal many layers of extinction events accelerating at a rate that wouldn't have been expected a decade ago

I hope Hurricane Season wipes the south east of the United States back into the Gulf of Mexico/Atlantic Ocean.

Oh well.

Uh oh basgettios, looks like we probably should have shown up to vote. Now we get to be cooked alive, but more likely your children.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

and hey we know he's watching out for all those school kids. how many will die in the next 4 years or longer.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Because of inaction and the "fearmongering," I think people are just giving up and planning to "live with it"... Which would be nice if only they didn't act like they did nothing wrong in ignoring the issue and kicking the can down the road since the REAGAN ERA.

DON'T LOOK UP!

Sadly I thought this was the Onion. Then I wished it was.

Trudeau, for all his faults, may be the last one to even make a show of trying. He’ll probably be out next year though

1 year ago | Likes 25 Dislikes 0

By a wannabe Trump no less it looks.

If only Pierre were half as competent.

Yes, I know what I said.

The only way the environment will be saved is if someone finds a way to make restoring it much more profitable than destroying it.

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

There's probably trillions and trillions of dollars to be made in the environmental industry, or so I have read. Just not by the current (energy) companies. All subsidies (or tax breaks) combined for fossil fuels are estimated to be over 1 trillion dollars this year. Imagine how much we could do with this money to HELP the environment. And how much this could mean for the happiness in the long run, something that's way (did I say WAY) more important than 'the economy must grow'.

Capitalism doesn't think about the long run.

And we were doing so much before!

The planet is going to burn us alive, and you try and troll us by making this stupid joke? I hope you are the first to drown or burn alive when the oceans rise 30 feet and the forest fires get out of control, remember this moment for when that finally happens and you thought it was funny making this stupid joke, you stupid waste of space

It's a news article, bro.

Climate change will be taken seriously. But not until it becomes an existential crisis. The problem is, nobody's quite sure what happens when it becomes an existential crisis - quite a few models suggest it's pretty bad.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To many people it already IS an existential crisis. I have never seen a year with so many devastating floods in Europe as this one. And yet, the idiots don't learn.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The thing is, once it'll be evident to even the dummest among us, it'll be too late. There are too many genies in that scenario that can't be put back in their bottles.

So many things are intertwined and connected that once we cross that tipping point, we are no longer in control.

Silver lining: the climate end of the world is now going to be sped up so we won’t have to live through this as long as we otherwise we have. /s

1 year ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 1

That and the world will recover once we all die. Money won't protect the rich from the Earth.

1 year ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Eh. So be it. The planet will fix itself after we're all gone. Maybe the next civilization will get up and running before the sun gets more active and scorches the planet's surface clean.

Im tired of seeing that argument. It had never been about the floating space rock, its about all the living beings suffering on it at our expense in this timeline, somethig we could have avoided.

^This

Argument? It's not an argument, it's a fact. If we annihilate ourselves, so be it.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hey, maybe Trump will reduce US carbon emissions by another 12%

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 6

Increased by 1200% you say? *Professor Farnsworth voice*

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

He's going to stop talking?

1 year ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

"How can we possibly fix the climate? Carbon offsets? Green manufacturing initiatives? It's so complicated!" Seriously, just kill, like, 20 CEOs. Their replacements will suddenly offer simple solutions when they see the benefits of not being decapitated in front of a crowd of cheering onlookers.

Why do POLICE/MAIL/DELIVERY Services (many using alt fuel sources) all use economic vehicles when the public does not have that choice. Why do big corps choose to use said vehicles? Hmmmm

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What’s ironic is that the social upheaval empowering anti climate capitalism is mostly directly attributable to the effects of climate change

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Real

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Corporations want the same rights as a person? Okay then, for every failing of the corp, someone from the ruling board has to go to prison.
They'll meet their quotas.

1 year ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not just someone. Someone important. And don't forget the board and major investors.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They'll just loophole it and post someone as scapegoat while the actual "important person" works in the dark.. :/

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And what do you expect the people who buy the CEO's products will do when they can no longer buy a new phone every year, or get their fast fashion delivered same day to their door? Shrug and go, "oh well, it's for the best"? Or do you think they'll install absolutely anyone who promises to make things 'the way they used to be'? This latest election should demonstrate in no uncertain terms that the problem is not at the tippy top of the pyramid. The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 15

You can still build phones. Just don't do it in a way that gets your head chopped off.

1 year ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Is a new phone every year, fast fashion that rips along the seems after one wear necessary for survival? No, it isn't. Having an inhabitable planet is. Not monetary gains should be a priority, but adjusting accordingly.

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I didn't say it was. But you don't need to convince *me*. You have to convince everyone else.

1 year ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I'm kind of thinking that in the end, we really need a new war to stop this bullshit. Maybe Trump will provide it.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

War causes a a lot more greenhouse gas emissions. With this Trump win, we are heading for (escalation of) wars on three continents.

1 year ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but after it, there is likely to be a shit load less population, so greenhouse gasses will decline rapidly.

IF we are able to hold the house he can’t dismantle the infrastructure plan

1 year ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

TBH bestie I'm a bit worried that there will BE a house in the next year or two. We'll all see together I guess, but, got me shook FR

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unfortunately, it's extremely unlikely at this point.

1 year ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Just trying to give you rays of hope so you don’t give up. The chips act and most of the green energy jobs are in red and swing states so most likely those senators won’t want to undo it

1 year ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Has the Republicans shown any interest in not harming themselves if they can undo anything Democratic and harm others in the process as well?
