I think it's a spider. I might be mistaken.

Don't kill it! It eats even more annoying pests like flies and mosquitoes.

I didn't, just pulled it out for a bit to take a photo. Released it back to the mulch pile

Top picture, Wheelbug nymphs (http://bugguide.net/node/view/454), bottom picture looks like a standard wolf spider.
