First assembly: daybed

This bad boy comes in four pieces: two side panels, the back panel that bolts onto them, and the drawer.

I didn't have enough room in my shop to assemble this as I worked so it was a lot of triple measuring and calculating and crossing all of my fingers.

All together now

In the end everything fit like a glove. I teared up a little bit but by this point I was exhausted and it was really hard to not openly wail like a baby

Trundle mode!

And with the drawer pulled out, the princess's twin becomes a king!

Frills and whistles

I let my wife field the finishing touches and I believe she nailed it.

First assembly: bookshelf

I wish I'd taken more progress pics. I had the same issue I had with the bed in that I didn't have room in the shop for a lot of dry fitting. Here I was a little unlucky and I was off by a board width on the top shelf. The solution was to remove the side board from one of the shelving units (notice the clamp).

All together now

I took a picture as soon as I'd neatly placed all of her things on her new shelves. Spoiler alert, after 10 minutes it became very lived in and won't look this organized again for a very long time.

The reveal

Our daughter was out of town for five days, so we took some PTO and cranked this out to surprise her when she got home. It was a lot of long hours and back-breaking work (basement shop, attic bedroom), but in the end the look on her blurry face was pure joy and it was all worth it.

Aftermath

Ah, the satisfying shop clutter of a completed project.

That's a really awesome job right there. Very nice.

How do you not mention the awesomeness of the light switch in the head board!?!?! I love how appreciative your daughter looks!
