Original blade with most of its original blackening. Clearly has a ton of pitting (or whatever you'd call that)
Fairly common WWII field modification for paratroopers. The crossguard was rather large, so half of it was ground off so that it would not dig into the soldier's hip.

They ground the brass guard down on the left side of the knife (it would be next to the body) so it would be easier to carry in a sheath.
