Creating A Trigger List (NOT about feminism)

Having been in a rut for quite a few months (pretty sure I'm at least mildy depressed), but getting pretty sick of my own shit. I haven't been to therapy for anything like this, but something tells me they try to identify triggers that make you feel sad or make you crave something you're addicted to so you can either avoid them or work up to disregarding them.

Therefore I am saving therapy money and making my own list of all the silly songs and memories that make me tear up. Just want to know if this is something that is actually done with a therapist and/or your opinion on if you think it's healthy to be staring at this piece of paper all the time, or if I should really just be trying to forget all this stuff.

I'm a therapist: keep a list. That will be helpful! However, I would ask you to write it down and not perseverate on it.

Write down and ceremoniously destroy them? Like write in Nutella on toast and then eat it cause you have the power. Don't dwell on list.

Well the list isn't REASONS I am sad, just the things that remind me why. But yes, I can't dwell on the items.

Don't focus on the stuff that triggers you, instead find stuff that distracts you, or better, lifts your mood.

I try to do this as well.

Just remember that you're literally trying to prove to yourself that you should be sad. Accept that and move beyond it. Might be easy to say

but I'm also there. Married and have 3 kids, good job but still trying to prove to myself that I should be sad.

Well, I hope you have your family's support.

Dont know how sad you are but if you think you're going to kill your self, just sit down and grab the chair or anything around you and

just breathe. Relax and bring yourself back from all those thoughts

I haven't come to the point where I was actually going to do it, but the thought crosses my mind occasionally. I doubt I'd ever do it.
