Cake Day

Jul 22, 2024 4:43 AM

This is actually the first time Ive remembered to post on my cake day in the 9 years ive had an account. Thanks to @TayOi for reminding me to make a post today. Unfortunately I have nothing bold or clever to say so Ill share this photo of the Duomo I took on a recent trip I took to Italy. It is a good day, the best National Ice Cream Day, as well as the day that Biden Dropped out which has given a lot of momentum to our best chance of combatting christo-fascism! I'll definitely remember this one!

I could swear I saw a shadow on the roof a few minutes ago; check the area in the streets for carts of hay.

I'm so accustomed to see the dome that it has no effect on me, I'd like, for one time, to see it thru the eyes of a tourist. It must be epic

You live in Florence? I admit it is pretty cool, but I think it looks so cool illuminated by the LED lights.

I flee the town years ago, but I'm there every day for work and you can see it almost from everywhere so, meh!

It is quite a view from the top of the dome. https://imgur.com/m5VIfCH

...Anyone else getting sudden urge to run across those rooftops?

and then stab someone, right?

Oh wow, it looks so much taller from the top,

Quite a climb up there. But totally worth it. You also get a really good view on a fresco inside the dome from the gallery which is on the bottom of the dome.

I hope to do it one day
I have walked up St. Peter’s done in Rome and that was really cool
Not just the view but seeing and climbing all the narrow inner tunnels and unique stair ways
Idk if the Duomo is like exactly the same but in Rome you get to see the inside of the cathedral from the ceiling where there’s a balcony
I remember being so afraid of some falling from that height
The marble floor just seemed harder than normal ground

I was late for St.Peters dome. They just closed when I arrived. In the Santa Maria del Fiore indeed the passages are narrow, the stairs quite steep. Clearly that is not space that was intended for general public back when it was built :)

That’s too bad, it’s frustrating when they close right when you’re getting there.
It’s so interesting seeing the parts of complex structures like that, the narrows steep stairs, the parts not initially open to the public. There’s so much to see and it’s just wild how many various passage ways there are in a building that large
