I lost a friend today.

Just found out that I lost a very good friend today.
It's late and I don't have anyone to talk to until tomorrow, so I'm throwing this into the air here.
2 years back, I got frustrated with a bus stranding me in my town.
I looked at the local paper and saw a story about transit issues, contacted the reporter, and that kicked off a special issue looking into all the problems.
That reporter introduced me to J, a former marine and avid cyclist who was deeply involved in the community and advocacy for all kinds of these issues.
Over the last 2 years, with plenty of guidance from J, I've gotten to know so many incredible people and become active in advocacy myself.
I just had lunch with him Friday, his life has been troubled for a while, and while I don't know the details of his passing, I fear the worst.
Value and treasure those in your life, you never know how long you have.

I'm very sorry to hear that.

We take life for granted, even when we are reminded at times like these that it's short and precious. From what you wrote, I think J lived a very full life and certainly made a big impact on the lives he touched. I hope you can take some solace in knowing how much of the good he has done is still present in the world around you.

I understand you "fearing the worst" concerning his passing, even though it doesn't detract from his life.

I am sorry for your loss and wish you strength during your grief.

Thank you. J made an impact with his life, and everyone who knew him is better for knowing him. We're still all in shock, it's hard to fully take in.
