My favorite noodle passed away :(

Scooter (reference to Borderlands) the western hognose

The hognose is an interesting species. While considered mildly venomous or toxic, they are rear fanged and require "chewing" to invenomate. They are not deadly to humans, only toads (their favorite food).

I should have named him diglet...

Scooter loved to burrow. It was damned adorable to watch. Its something they do in the wild to ambush prey/hide from larger predators.

When I came home from work I often saw him like this. I like to think he was a happy critter.

He had spunk

The fascinating thing about this species is they hiss rather loud and flatten their heads to mock a cobra. Unfortunately this has had many of them unknowingly killed by people thinking it really is a deadly cobra.

They will also play dead and release their bowls. This is not so fun, Scooter never did that thankfully.

Scooter was a special animal. While his scale color is what would be called normal, he carried the genes that would reproduce an albino and snow morph when bred to the right female.

Unfortunately again, I never found him a mate...he would have been ready in the spring. I would also hope his curious and friendly personality passed on.

I thought he was so dapper :-3

I wanted to get a top hat and monocle for him for so long. He really was a sweet gentlemen.

This was the last pic I took of him just a day before he died. I had left that morning for work and he was fine, come home and he was gone. I was devastated and felt like no one understood. To most of my friends and family they are gross, mean creatures. I know there are others like me but they are so hard to find:(

I know he's not fluffy or a cat but he meant something to me and I felt like sharing.
