That´s just been a very interesting 24hrs, many things moved, though the impact is impossible to gauge. No sauce today, because each of the items can be found online easily and most of the reliable media tell the same story.

Chinas foreign minister gave a statement which is tantamount to "RU cannot be allowed to lose the war" - not as hot a potatoe as you might think, they have been saying this for some time now. It might be a chip in their bargain for Taiwan or not.

With Starlink AND Telegram being down or hard to access for RU troops, Ukraine has a chance to blunt their advance and take back some territory, though it is unclear if UA has the means to do so. There are rumors of such a counteroffensive, but zero proof so far.

10 UA soldiers rendered 2 NATO battallions combat ineffective within about 12hrs. Fortunately it was during a training excercise. UA left the western units in shambles, as they were unable to cope with the drone tactics employed against them - at 50% the density UA has to face on the front. Part funny, part frightening it in reality is neither. NATO has yet to catch up on their defensive measures, which they are doing. Still, the curious incident highlights how much warfare has changed and that NATO doctrine needs to adapt, and do so soon.

The NATO exercise is a wake up call for all involved. If they expect to fight Russians they should accelerate the anti-drone production.

Well, anti drone research is more where we're at, because none of the currently available options are anywhere approaching optimal.

Electronic jamming isnt always reliable.

Drone interceptors are inefficient and costly.

Shotguns expose the soldier to extreme risk.

Essentially with drones we're back to where we were with aircraft before the invention of SAMs.

AFAIK there are several programs under development to give NATO troops some shield capabilities, from drone interceptors to better AA guns and ECM. It´s more a question if we have the necessary time to bring them to completion.

Sometimes its not about building whole new weapons systems or even necessarily defences, sometimes you find a solution to the problem when looking somewhere else.

When people think SAM they think the missile, but the missiles were around for nearly 20 years before an effective radar guidance system made them a true counter to aircraft.

Because once it's achieved lock, whatever mission the pilot was on is essentially scrubbed unless he doesnt mind dying. Something like smart bullets might 1/

Be the effective counter to drone swarms as they arent all that far from reality, or maybe revive the airbursting grenade from the OICW. 2
