Let's start at home: Moon in front of Earth

So close, yet so far: Io in front of Jupiter

giant hurricanes on distant planets

shores

mountains

planets with thick atmosphere

tidally locked planets with extreme climates

ice planets

lava planets

aurorae

asteroids

comets

nebulae

pulsars

and the most massive objects: supermassive black holes (https://i.imgur.com/XV3cKud.gif)

entire galaxies

known and unknown (procedurally generated)

And obviously much, much more.

Check out http://en.spaceengine.org/ to download Space Engine for FREE (you should consider donating, as that will go to development).

This collection has been created from "Space Engine 0.9.8.0 Trailer" by "Ich Du" on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ve0Bpmx8Fk0), so check that out for a couple more shots all in 1080p.

awesome

Is this a source code for the universe?

"These are the voyages..." I could hear it in my head.

Is there a way to export the planets as equirectangular texture maps?

Jesus that looks good...

The vastness of it gives me anxiety. I feel like I'm going to fall into nothingness or strong gravity all the time.

Time to change my pants.

Yes, thank you for showing not just planetoid shots but interstellar cruising at millions and billions of kilolights. My favorite part!

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

I mean megalights and gigalights. A billion kilolights gets you thru the milky way in less than a minute.

That planet has a sunrise, thus it isn't tidally locked.

If you look, you'll notice the planet is on the top right of the GIF #7. The camera is on a moon facing towards it.

So what kind of monster computer would I need to run this?

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I'd say anything more than a GTX 650 will do the job nicely.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have control over almost all settings, I think a media computer can run it.

I have a middle priced gaming PC (Intel i7, Geforce 770 GTX) from 3 years ago and it runs perfectly.

Do you get to land on the planets or just flyby?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can get right down to them and look at the landscapes yeah

That trailer is so beautiful that it makes astronomers weep and say stuff like "they should have sent a poet"

You'd never know you were in a nebula. There is only one atom per cubic yard of space in a nebula.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What if the nebula spans multiple lightyears around you, though?

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You still would not be able to tell if you were in a nebula or not. Star Wars and Star Trek have lied to you.

2> special imaging like infrared or x-ray.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can you tell or see the nebulae around our solar system with the naked eye? In fact all nebulae we know of can only be seen through >

Wonder if Uber is a possibility

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

... You know what? That's an excellent idea! Space Uber! I wonder if I can get a commission by suggesting a partnership with Space X...

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I would assume that would be a helluva cut for commission considering only millionaires/billionaires can afford to travel
