You can in fact have both. Today I have anxiety over two pet rats in surgery, but I have a nostalgic amount of memes to dump to keep my mind off it. I'm going to info dump about rats and ramble in between, only one payoff pic in this meme dump. But indulge my hyperfixation if you don't mind. It's cathartic for me to combine the two.
How did I acquire these memes? I found them just lying around, discarded after use. Now I'm done with them so they can either rot in my recycle bin or y'all can enjoy and provide some updoots and comfort for me by viewing them or donating to my rat surgeries. @ or $ Avenlanzer if you wanna help save my pets lives.
I love the band, but it ain't wrong.
Star Trek is a great topic with plenty of lore to keep nerds like me talking for hours. Another of my special interests.
?The Cardassian enslavement makes the Bajorans all go to war, oh how the mighty wormhole brings the Federation to their door.?
Standard greeting returned, they are now asking if you need scritches, captain. Ask them if they have treats.
I have a hard time keeping clothes or harnesses or anything like this on my rats. They slip right out. Got some stuff that would be cute, but they say no thanks.
I know my Star Wars lore too.
English is a funny language. If only we could just be rat and squeek instead.
Squeek.
See, it kinda works. My squeaks are just more in the meme dialect.
I don't keep shelves and shelves of ebooks, I keep the real books because the sensation of reading along with the smell of them is intoxicating. I love books.
Pro tip: you're supposed to lie and sound better than you actually are during interviews.
There are so many funny things we miss in this world, so I bring a few funniest to you from the lost area under the couch and between the cushions. We rats scavenger and horde until we're ready to consume.
I want this as a shirt
How much more perfect a response to it could you get?!
I do not have cats. I like cats, but my immune system does not. I've had some anyway and they absolutely do this.
I can't recall this never working, but I'll keep trying because I'm a broke bitch with pet medical bills I gotta pay off.
Narrator: it was.
It seriously makes it more appealing to eat. I need that snack charcuterie tackle box thing with stuff like that already cut up for me to snack on.
Gyro likes ham. Insists I post this. Ok, fine. HAM!?
What does a chibi unicorn named after a Mediterranean meet chimera have to do with rats? Well, I know, and those who I cultivate for know. The rest of you can keep guessing. Maybe Gyro will say hi in future dumps.
A lot of the oddly adorable and some of the mildly fucked up but cute memes are Gyro's fault anyway.
But source? Didn't I tell you, these got dropped in between couch cushions, many in @BottomShelfVodka 's discord and other imgur dumps.
Which is why so many of them look familiar. I stole right outta other dumps here.
I'm not ashamed. I call it curating. At first just for my dear gaming group and best friends on our private discord server, but If y'all like my stash, I may as well drop it here before ohone clearing.
I know plenty about cyber security. One thing I can tell you, is this is more or less true. Especially since WFH became a regular thing.
I'm just worried about them getting overheated in those fur suits. Sure you feel better wearing it, but it's fucking hot outside.
Um...if I found make 30k for sex, I would totally prostitute myself out. Everyone has their number, mine just happens to remember I'm broke and have 650-800$ worth of vet bills being presented to me in like an hour.
I have bedroom skills, I just don't use them. Now, if there were a job market for cultivating memes, I could try my hand at making enough to live on in this dystopian post capitalism America.
Ya do what ya gotta do to keep your family and your rats healthy and fed. Everything else goes towards more bread.
It's why possums are a great spirit animal. Not that different from rats for the most part. Except possums require an exotic license. Poor babies. They're cuddly and soft, even though they don't look it.
Like rat tails. I know people who hate rats say they hate rat tails, but funny that they feel nothing like they look. If you were blindfolded, given a what you were told is a pet, felt the tail first you'd be confused. They look scaly, but it's actually more a pattern of fur that grows like that on their tails, soft downy fur. I love just sitting and stroking rat tails. It's actually a really lovely texture. If you can get past the look of the tail to feel one, you can probably get over your rat hate.
They're sweet little creatures. Not like their wild counterparts, who see humans as predator. Fancy rats, the ones you see as pets, they are as far removed from their wild counterparts as dogs are from wolves. They just didn't get a separate name like dogs did, or the wild African Savana cat did, which is the origin species of modern housecats. Fancy rats are not wild rats. So much smarter, healthier, friendlier, cleaner, and I really just awesome pets.
You can train them for tricks. You can even potty train them. Some even take to it without training, which automatically reduces the time you need to spend cleaning the cage, just dump their potty and do a main cleaning less often.
I'm definitely a sucker for a good pun or dad joke. It don't pay the bills, but you can still buy your way into my heart that way.
Nah, we just become best friends. Because, like all things, the look was stolen and cultivated as its own separate thing. Like meme dumps. Don't come at me if you've seen these before, and recently. Probably you have. Meme dumps are all incestuous around here now anyway. I just pull the good stuff from the couch cushions when they stop looking so I have something to snack on and feed to my large rat family.
Oh how many rats in the large rat family? Oh glad you asked. 5, I have 4 lovely girls, Jasnah and Leia (who is currently in for surgery) who are 1y3m (about 30 equivalent in rat years), Pearl and Didi who are 9mo (about 21 in rat years), and then last week we were surprised with a rescue the rescuer named Enzo (and he akready responds to). A clearly well loved and smart A.F. pet rat, left abandoned. Poor guy has only 3 legs and it looks like the leg has just barely healed up. He's give or take 1y9m and still happy and healthy. Don't know what happened before or why he was abandoned, but I love him already. He's so friendly to humans. Only issue with keeping Enzo....I have girls and I can't risk starting a breeding program. So either he stays alone inches away from other rats the rest of his life or he gets the snip.
So the snip on him and Leia's emergency tumor removal are both happening today.
which will both probably turn out fine, but I still worry.
And I'm broke. I set just enough aside to cover emergency surgery on one rat. The new intake was unexpected. It'll be tight for the next month or two, always is living paycheck to paycheck. You know how it is lately.
I manage. I plan ahead, especially knowing I chose a species that is easy to care for but traditionally has certain health problems on a regular basis. Otherwise Rats are a cheap and easy pet to care for. Getting set up with a nice cafe and decking it out might cost you, but the little and food aren't bad once you are set up. Just expect vet bills. Today's bills are going to wipe out more than I set aside for this issue. Sigh. Always a struggle in this world.
I was expecting September to be around when things would get weird. Nah, this whole year has been one weird strange trip for me.
Mostly mental health wise. My rats, as pets, have really helped keep me going. Quite literally, as finding someone to take care of them if Im not around would be difficult. And they are not feeders, they are lovely darling pets, Leia is maybe even a service animal at this point, since I take her with me on my little walks to the park.
Leia loves walking with me. I have a backpack decked out with a hammock, litter tray, water dish (which is usually empty because it splashes and I refill as needed when we stop). It has mesh they can get air through and see out, but enough enclosed space they can go down to hide. It's really a neat set up. I should post something showing that off too.
I'll usually leave the backpack open if it's just Leia, or sometimes Jasnah. The others I can't trust yet, but she's my Familiar. My current Heart Rat. She listens to me if I tell her to go back in and acts like she understands. When the backpack top is open she'll climb out and sit on my shoulder, chittering in my ear at everything she sees and smells. She doesn't have good eyesight, but I don't think she ever noticed. It's still cool to walk around with her Hooman. When it's cold and I'm wearing a hoodie she actually prefers to be right there at my neck in the hood, with the option of the potty at the bottom of the backpack. The others all prefer the gentle sway of the hammock within the backpack and everything they need while traveling.
It's Leia's childlike wonder at everything that I love so much about her. She's an autistic rat, a little weird. And I've learned holy hell, so am I. Minus the rat part, sadly.
Though if I were a rat, I'd be much like my little Enzo buddy. Dang this guy is loveable. He's smart and curious. He loves people, every Hooman he meets. He tries to play things cool in his little separate cage while the girls are throwing themselves throw the bars at him. (And testing new ways to get out, now the they have motivation), but then he casually turns around so they dont see and checks his manhood. He was probably breeding stock once upon a time. If he wasn't, that's a shame, but If I don't let them get together one of them is going to find a way to tear through the bars to get to him or I'm going to be AuDHD forgetful and there will be breeding. Hence today's neutering so he can safely be with the lady's. He knows he's got the good life already and is happy to show all the affection you'll take. Kisses galore. Then play things cool again while the lady's aren't liking. I'm happy to put them all together once he's healed up enough for the activities, and let him be king of the roost.
He'll be well fed. And can spend time in Mischief Mansion with the girls, instead of always sleeping in the pool house apartment on the estate, always dreaming of what he cannot have. I want to give it to him. Just one little snip first and Hooman has no worries anymore.
Leia I'm not worried about losing, as she responds to commands and comes right back to me, the backpack, or the cage, even if one of those things changes. She's friggin smart, and keeps the others from doing dumb stuff. I don't think Enzo the 3 legged rat is getting very far anymore, but I haven't tested him. And the others are already kept in line by Leia, which is why she gets a little beat up. She's not the alpha, not in charge, but she's right and will interpret her idea for the others and try to enforce it anyway. Then doesn't fight back when they beat her up for it. This goes so far as to all 4 being in the cage the next morning even though someone had left it wide open the night before. She's worth saving. I think she thinks a bit like Enzo and he might help be an intermediary for the others. Could be good for each other. I already see who his favorite is, and who is still flirting hard while he plays it cool.
I don't know for certain. I'm technically just a hooman and therefore project human emotions onto my pets, but Leia is different. I read her like a book. She's his favorite and he does act like it. I'm interested to see how this love story plays out, since once he's snipped today none of them have to choose if they don't want. Enzo is so thankful because he knows he has a harem just waiting for him and he's got a great cage all to himself otherwise.
Rat tax. This is Jasnah. Queen of the roost, and a cuddle bug. She's a sweetheart and luckily not one of the rats currently in surgery costing me a fortune, but the one that stood still for the picture. I've posted Leia and Enzo so far in other dumps....oh, I should figure out a back post link for these rat tax pics.
Part 4: Imgur better stop crashing my dumps. Rats can only carry so many. https://imgur.com/gallery/aDUoxlR

#1 To me, nostalgia and anxiety are very closely related. Sometimes I have trouble determining which is which, sometimes they're both. I have strong nostalgic ties to music, there are some songs that have immense nostalgia and anxiety attached to them. One song in particular is nostalgic for the memories of the time it first came out and i was in middle school, and anxiety inducing for the memories of hearing it a few years later in high school.

I hope the surgeries go well. Make sure you keep the boy and girls separate for several weeks to ensure he is shooting blanks. He will probably service them for a bit until he loses interest as the hormones wane.

@OP good luck with your rats, I'm rooting for them to come through surgery OK, and I hope you get some windfall money to help cushion the financial blow. Love and solidarity, and thank you for the memes.

The moxie TTRPG is basically Kids on Bikes, but there are several similar systems. Maybe A Familiar Problem?
zipzipzipzip
Kingdom of Loathing if you want a good browser game, where “Moxie is a measure of your panache, your chutzpah, your cojones.” Moxie is one of three main skills, the others being Muscle and Mysticality
schmonday
They wanted a TTRPG.
a2s2020
Moxie was a stat in the Noir RPG (published mid 90s? About noir movie style detective adventures)
schmonday
It's used in a bunch of stuff, but the system that particular picture is describing is more than just moxie. I just didn't want to list every stat again.

#7 Does Lower Decks have kzinti like the old animated series or is this just a general sci-fi cat person?
KaminoNeko
Funnily, the Caitians were introduced first (M'Ress appeared in episode 6, the Kzinti first appeared in episode 12) and appeared more often (M'Ress was in 6 of the series 23 episodes, Kzinti only in 2).
Merky600
Larry Niven short story. “Soft Weapon” introduced the Kzinti. I saw animated episode (same plot!) long before reading the story. Thought I was going nuts. “Wait? This seems familiar..”
IdiotSavantTinker
I read the story first (I have a couple of collections of Niven's short stories that I've had for decades) and found that episode, which was just as familiar as it was going the other direction.
mithiwithi
That's T'ana. She's a Caitian, the same species as M'ress from the older Animated Series. M'ress is the catgirl we want, T'ana is the catgirl we deserve.
BluePaladin42
Yes, I think. The Caitian (T'ana and M'ress' species) are related to the Kzinti if I recall.
mithiwithi
As related as Vulcans and Romulans, according to https://memory-alpha.fandom.com/wiki/Caitian
somnif
All that said, yes, Lower Decks has some Kzinti too. One even makes a joke about his posture.
IdiotSavantTinker
I guess I'm going to have to check this show out. The last Star Trek I watched at all was DS9.
somnif
The first few episodes are a bit rough, the humor a bit heavy handed and forced. It finds its groove though and is rather enjoyable by mid season 1.
avenlanzer
That's Lower Decks. She's the doctor on the ship, one of the main characters directly for her, so she's a regular. And Lower Decks is even more canon than the old animated series.
IdiotSavantTinker
The only reason I've seen any of TAS was because they had an episode written by one of my favorite sci-fi authors, Larry Niven, who came up with a few alien races, including Kzin, Pierson's Puppeteers, Kdatlyno, and Pak (of course Pak aren't exactly alien...)
BluePaladin42
Imagine if Lower Decks just tossed in a Protector.
IdiotSavantTinker
An away party beams down, and just one guy goes *nuts* and starts digging this shrub out of the ground and eating it, and nobody can figure out why. Then he goes unconscious...
avenlanzer
Oh nice, I wasn't aware Niven created them. That makes me like that character even more.
somnif
Alas, T'ana isn't Kzinti (though a couple ensigns are). She's Caitian, another TAS introduced species.
IdiotSavantTinker
If the producers had any guts they'd make a Puppeteer, but some poor animator would have to figure out how they walk.
avenlanzer
At this particular moment, with a 3 legged rat under anesthesia, I'm fond of 3 legged creatures. And I always liked the puppeteers. Stupidly realistic and likely to evolve on its own. Plus you can make them with hand puppets.
