I think he's a selfish and close-minded person, and I'm tired of seeing him being represented as a beacon of good taste and a shining example of a human being.

Like the manic pixie dream girl version of libertarians, imaginary

This is what Ron Swanson would say:

I disagree, but you have my upvote.

It's made even better that the actor is pretty much the opposite of his established character.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Well you used the meme right so +1 He’s a straight shooter who likes solitude. Nothing wrong with that.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That’s ok, he probably wouldn’t like you either.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Absolutely! He starts off as a total asshole. But the actor did such a good job with it. I’m sure we all know people like that..

Ron Swanson isn't a character, he's a caricature. He's a portrait of American machismo and individualism.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Which is not super trendy these days.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It’s about overcoming these shortcomings. That’s how a character arches work. You feeling this strongly shows the writers did a good job.

4 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 1

Do you mean "a character's arc"?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually meant banana bread but autocorrect…

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Now apply that logic to Delores Umbridge

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

She didn't have a story arc or character development. Nor did she have nuance or any complicated personality either.

Never seen it. That's the Netflix mob show? Maybe he gets witness protection or relocated or something?

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

his character definitely evolved over the show. I think originally yeah he was a parody of selfish libertarians.

4 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Started out as a caricature, developed into much more than just a foil for Leslie.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

yep

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the episode where he sets up his will for his new wife and step-kids really shows how far he'd come since the start of the show.

4 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

i think that over time the writers realized that the actor was super likable and so they tried to make his character less awful.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ron's politics were nieve and dangerous, but he wasn't selfish or uncaring.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1
