Turns out my career is also my hobby.

Hi, Imgur! I’ve been a professional mechanic for about 34 or so years. Some of us call ourselves Automotive Service Technicians.
I love what I do. These are my tool boxes. The red one on the left, and the orange & blue ones on the right are mine. The orange one was my fist tool box. Purchased in 1988, I bought it used from the local Snap On Tools guy. I paid $200. It’s a Matco.
The red one is a Craftsman. It was gifted to me by my dad a year or so later. I think he paid $1000 for it at the time, brand new.
The blue one is a Snap On box that I bought used last year from Snap On. I paid $2200 for it.
Oh, and all three boxes are pretty well full of tools.

This was a fun job. Engine replacement on a 2017 Ford Taurus Police Interceptor 3.7L V6. It was seized so it was easier to drop it out like this.

Another fun job. Engine oil cooler replacement on a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.6L V6. They commonly leak engine oil and coolant.

This is what I love the most. The yellow wire has some green corrosion on it, causing an open brake switch circuit. This one wire was responsible for five DTC’s, or Diagnostic Trouble Codes. The dash of this 2014 Ford F-350 6.7L V8 Powerstroke was lit up like a Christmas tree. It’s very satisfying to find and repair these problems.

Thanks for reading!

I am not mechanically minded but I loved DIY from an early age. Have been self employed as a Handyman for 17 years now. Hobby now career ;)
