I’m in Grand Rapids and I’m biased towards the west side of the state, but generally speaking there are plenty of places people could land. It may be a non-answer, but it really depends on what someone is looking for and individual circumstances. I will say housing availability is an issue here in GR (like basically every urban area), so for someone selling and moving here you might have to buy smaller/older/a bit shit/rural/etc.

Yeah, that sounds about right. Back when I was looking there was a house that was listed for ~$160k that had construction jacks in the basement holding the kitchen floor up because the beams were so warped they had pulled out of their moorings and were ‘floating’ on just the subfloor.
The ONLY reason I have a house and am not still renting is because we hard whoopsie’d into a listing for an ugly but solid house. If my wife’s aunt hadn’t been the neighbor… I guess I’d be screwed like everybody.
