He is better and I told him about this post. They destroyed his phone and most of his room is gone but he is better. I'm happy

If it's really that abusive and they are under 18 they can in most places ask the court to become emancipated

Emancipation only works if they're able to prove they can properly survive on their own. The more likely is a transfer of guardianship.

Unknown if they can or can't.

If they're running off to OP's house, they probably can't and the latter would have to happen.

If he's under 18 you can't legally take him from his home without parental consent. If he wants to escape he has to go through the system.

Which is unfortunate

In some situations, but it does prevent a lot of rebellious teens from getting into bad situations. My recommendation to him would be (1/2)

to talk to a school counselor, because they will usually get you out of that situation quick, especially if you have an escape route. (2/2)

Thats a great way to go about it, unfortunately itrarely ever works out that easily. Especially off the parents can hide the abuse

It's getting a lot better though. Verbal and emotional abuse are being taken more seriously nowadays.

Have you head of something called the Internet?

Doesn't matter, until the courts decide that he is unsafe there (he'd go to a foster home) he "belongs" to his parents.

Actually the foster system is so over crowded, if OPs parents put in a request the judge would very likely let him stay with them.

Assuming the courts decided to remove him from his home

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Maybe, but regardless the court must decide that first.
