Yes, crazy small. I moved from Florida to Oregon. Every Oregonian is like "we have mosquitoes here too and they point to a tarantula with wings tgats fumbling around a window. Thats not the mosquitoes im talking about. The mosquitoes im talking about are the size of a nat and live in swarms of a million. They can empty a cow of blood in seconds, theyll leave your skin burning red, snd theyre too small to catch.
Those atnt anything. Its the nat sized mzzzzzzzzmzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzmzzzzzzzzzzzz little effers that sting worse than bee. The bigger one are the easier to kill. Its those little ones at dawn or dusk that have you feeling the million odd needles stabbing you past the nervy top flesh and into the bloody subdermis. If you dont know, you're lucky.
I'm from florida. I know of the joy of mosquitos. I remember once we decided to go on a nice little boat ride in some semi-swampy areas in a state park and there was this little island in the middle of the lake. We thought we'd boat out there and hike a bit. it wasn't an island but more just a mushy marshy bit sticking out of the water. as we approached a literal black cloud of mosquitos came out of the island and descended upon us. it was a bad day.
Hunting invasive Burmese pythons. Good for him. Hopefully his easy confidence is warranted based on skill and he lives long enough to catch a bunch of those beautiful, dangerous, destructive vermin.
They have to be killed humanely. Unfortunately, there are just too many of them to be rehomed in zoos and stuff. Other invasives he finds that are rarer such as chameleons become pets.
This person is "Fishingarrett" on YouTube. He's a conservationist (although it is unclear if he is a professional conservationist, or a recreational one) who removes invasive species from mostly the Florida Everglades. Notice how, if you remove the entertaining voiceover, it's mostly pretty standard conservationist stuff - removing invasive animals and checking on the native ones.
Because they are 20 times bigger. I'm being silly? Ok. I'm silly about people being ignorant and harassing (it WAS a kick) wildlife...? I'm fine with that 🤷‍♂️
not nothin, my cat might get offended and move two feet away to continue licking his paw dramatically, with increased contempt, outside of poking range.
It’s been awhile and I don’t remember off hand what the K stands for but it relates to the number to young per breeding cycle. Humans and mammals in general tend to be low K while insects are really fricken High K
No f’n kidding! If someone that STILL has all ten fingers and toes, AND boops and yoinks Florida wildlife like that has some skills. I’d want him on my team that’s for bloody sure!
There are laws about that... but you'd be hard pressed to find any lawyer willing to take a case like that. Its all filmed and generally harmless. There are people out there hunting endangered species and fucking up whole habitats. He touched some snakes, and one with a toe! AAAAAAAAA. Fucking stupid man. This is one of those times you might, I stress MIGHT, be technically right but that is some trivial, bureaucratic nonsense to worry about. He harmed nothing.
if you pay attention there is a point to everything he is doing. Invasive snakes is a huge problem in FL. To the point its driving others out to extinction.
Still waiting.... If this was my state, he'd be up for a $50k fine for Interfering with wildlife. No not the pythons, everything else. Everyone who downvotes is ignorant.
When you go out into the wilderness, you can't just think "I'm only going to be finding one species of animal" and expect all other forms of wildlife to just... not exist for the duration of that trek.

If Steve Irwin was from Florida instead of 'Stralia.

The first snake he kicked was a harmless water snake. The one he had in his hand was a highly venemous cottonmouth.

I'm sorry, did you say Land Crab? 🦀 That's a thing?!?!
Squirrelninja
We also have these things called Mangrove crabs. They live in Mangrove trees. yes, sometimes they do fall out of them.

Ok, I thought for some reason he was throwing the rabbit to the gator, and I'm relieved to see while he's reckless, he's not sadistic.

Isn't that the guy who got mauled by that bear right after taking this picture?
PorterPickUp
No. He and his girlfriend got eaten at night when trying to camp in bear land.
nurmich
"Grizzly Man" was mauled and killed along with his girlfriend. I think it was well after this particular picture was taken.

"Checking on"...? By poking them and throwing rocks... that's not conservation.
akrabbim
Dude, they're wild animals, not fragile artwork make of cotton candy and imagination. Poking an animal or thowing a rock near it isn't hurting it.
BipedalHumanoidWithSlightlyDifferentNoseRidge
mmmhmmm. So its ok because it's not someones dog or cat? If he "poked" them like that, people Would be calling for his head.
akrabbim
No, they wouldn't. Lightly poking a dog or cat would do nothing to them. You're being silly.
