Yeah, Yoko effed that up. I tried watching Rings of Power but got really bored very quickly, did not catch my interest, not even close to LOTR.

Rings of power are based on stories that are "meh" in comparison to the famous trilogy. They are not bad, just not in the same league, and more "niche" fantasy entertainment. For sure that didn't help the series.

The Hobbit Trilogy was the cinematic equivalent of a bloated corpse. It's a 300 page children's book that should have been made into a single film.

Two films would have been fine. Plenty of material to dive into without dragging things out. I will never understand why people expected the original trilogy out of a children's book, though.

So, all of Bard and Smaug's characterization, and Tauriel. That wouldn't get you down to two movies, let alone one. It would also make the movies a lot shittier, since the dragon everyone wants to see gets 2 pages of dialogue in the book, then gets killed in a single shot to a character no one knew existed. But maybe that actually sounds good to you? Jerry springer lasted almost 30 years after all.
