Local school hit by tornado

Mar 18, 2025 3:11 PM

Our local school was hit by an EF2 this weekend (too close for comfort for me, no fun grabbing a 1 yr old at midnight to shelter in place!)
It’s been a long couple days for our local community but luckily no one was seriously injured here and no one was at the school!

And the little greenhouse looks relatively unscathed except for a few panels!

Aside from the real danger, having tornado hit your school is every kid's dream: no school, and destruction.

Whoever installed their CCTV needs a raise.

Not near Springfield but I know you guys get some bad storms too

that is incredible footage! thanks for sharing. I used to be so scared of storms that a flash of lightning basically made me faint but the resulting thunder finished the job. now as an adult I'm oddly obsessed with storms, and was up until 4am watching this outbreak, from Rolla, Mo down through Mississippi. nothing is quite as terrifying as the uncertainty of a night tornado.

That’s awesome that you got over your fear! And yes, night tornados are especially terrifying. Not being able to see anything approaching is really creepy and this storm was SO FAST I’ve never experienced anything like it.

Did you guys get notified timely of the tornado?

The whole Midwest knew a big storm was coming a few days in advanced which was helpful! and my weather channel app sent me the tornado warning plus my husband was up listening to the radio for live updates. I’m fairly new to the Midwest so idk how sirens work but I didn’t hear any if that’s what you mean.

I'm going to recommend that you don't build a school in the path of a tornado. Follow this space for more tips.

Agreed. Just as moronic as laying roads right next to deer crossings. Like hello there’s even signs. How dumb can people be?
