I remember seeing Meaning of Life in a drive in movie and this came on, and we were wondering if we were at the right movie until we finally saw members of Monty Python in the board room.

"The Crimson Permanent Assurance is a 1983 British swashbuckling comedy short film that plays as the beginning of the feature-length motion picture Monty Python's The Meaning of Life."

A short directed entirely by Terry Gilliam, who is himself a member of the cast. But this is perhaps one of his first works that shows off his unique take on film. Many of his classic works are great; though his modern films are very hit and miss.

Such a fun short film. https://vimeo.com/111458975 for those who haven't seen it before.

When I was downloading the Meaning of Life, I thought I had downloaded the wrong movie, and people had named the file wrong. It's not a problem much anymore, but I can recall trying to download Kill Bill vol 2 while it was still in the theater, and the file I downloaded was really "Decadent Divas 22". I was really confused, because I hadn't seen the first 21 yet.

Oh it's been too long since I've seen that!

Thank you, I was sitting here very confused.

Wasn't this skit a prelude to Meaning of Life?

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Such a great film

2 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yes and it comes up again later in the film too

God, I haven't watched that in years. Something about the way Eric Idle sings "We'll up your premium semi-annually" just hits right.

Definitely gonna watch this later. Thanks!

Meaning of Life is hardly a "short film"

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're correct, which is why we were referring to the "The Crimson Permanent Assurance" (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215685/) short in particular.

Wasn't that just a lead in to MoL in cinemas? Was it ever released separately?

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I don't know if it was ever literally released in theatres separately, but it was created as its own standalone production and was even nominated for "Best Short Film" in the 1984 BAFTAs (the British equivalent of the Academy Awards) as a separate entity outside of MoL, so that counts as far as I'm concerned. https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0215685/awards/?ref_=tt_awd

No, the modular building sets generally run the $150-$200 range. I suppose the kits needed for the extra pieces might raise it up to three-fifty, though.
