The helmet in question. I don't know if it's the same one used by other NATO countries.
Manufacturer tag.
The clasp is on the right and bottom. The "parachuting safety clasp" is on the top left. I am not sure about the name of the safety clasp. I read it 19 years ago in danish...
According to the manual given out along with the helmet, the Parachuting Safety Clasp is only supposed to be locked during parachuting to prevent it from opening, and you losing your helmet. It is very poorly designed and will lock up during normal use. Hence why I have taped a coin over the lock.
The lock without the coin and in the locked position.
the lock in the open I-will-not-break-my-neck-if the helmet-catch-on-something poison. This should be the default. I was the only one in my old company, who had it in this position. Again poor design.
The lock worked very well I have never had an accidental opening. (Or a life/mobility saving one. )
The lock in it unlocked position.
