I just realized that there's now at least two Kim's Convenience alumni who've showed up in new trek. Her (Marlow from Handy) and the latest Strange New Worlds had Raj Mehta on the bridge crew. (This doesn't matter, I just thought it was cool.)
Centripetal force: F=m*v*v/r. Let's say a 5m wide device (clumsy, but not impossible on land) and just normal howitzer specs for the projectile (42kg, 770m/s). That's about 10 000 000 N. Which the projectile will take sideways, and as reaction force pushing on the side of the accelerator which it, the mounting and vehicle must withstand. And the reaction force will spin around as the projectile goes round, at about 49Hz here, so good luck managing the vibrations.
I think there’s a concept of a similar space cannon. It’s called Verne gun, i believe. Obviously only works for stuff that has a tolerance to severe g forces.

I could watch chickens getting launched (in Minecraft) all day.

I was fully expecting a "YEEEET" sound effect at the end, and I am mildly disappointed at the absence of one.

Is it just me or does the sound effect seem eerily similar to the warp off sound from the Escape Velocity games?

Yeah, like why they don't make a massive railgun with this technology. Could use some Cern wroomie circles for this...

SpinLaunch built a big prototype for this idea and quit on it

dot5490
They still want to build the launcher but they currently have too many hurdles to go ahead. To stay alive they are building satellites
ByThePowerOfSCIENCE
ah, I read about the pivot to satellites but I assumed they'd canned the idea
it's not entirely crazy for small satellites, thumbing your nose at the rocket equation
dot5490
It is absolutely a stretch!

We're mostly going to pretend that that also never happened.
