Postal inspectors said they retrieved over 1,000 pieces of mail, including a ballot and 400 pieces of “political mail.”
A nearby homeowner gave investigators a copy of surveillance video that appears to show McCoy going to the wooded lot at the end of a cul-de-sac in his van and throwing away “large quantities” of mail, investigators said.
Photos taken at the scene and included in the criminal complaint show piles of mail on the ground and scattered in the brush.
This seems to be more laziness and avoidance of work than malicious anti-voting tactics but seriously... Check regularly about your vote or do it in person.

My postwoman conveniently complained my yard was too messy and cancelled all mail service to my house, 2 YEARS IN A ROW - on the day mail in ballots were delivered. She claimed there was so much shit in my yard she couldnt safely make it to my mailbox. Meanwhile in the real world, my son left a bicycle laying on the lawn, and my daughters stroller was on the porch. You could drive a god damned forklift to my door without issue. Complaints were filed. This year my ballot arrived.
SquashDemon
Shit like this is why I voted early in person
Myoron
Enjoy that felony charge, dumbass.

This is all to muddy the waters on "election interference" to attempt to nullify the results and sent it to the SCOTUS who will decide that in favor of the traitor.
Plasmodesmata
Don't discourage people from voting by mail. You can easily check the status of your ballot through your state voting web site.

And I quote, "This seems to be more laziness and avoidance of work than malicious anti-voting tactics but seriously... Check regularly about your vote or do it in person."

This is so stupid. You can't see what's on the ballot. For all this asshole knows, they could be denying their chosen candidate their vote too.
Bondsmith10
Yet another reason why it's likely not politically motivated and the dude is just a fucking idiot.
nevergoingtogiveyouupnevergoingtoletyoudown
Tampering with federal mail. Thats a big no-no.
DJOldguy
They are doing their best to make sure this election has its credibility destroyed.... This should be treated as treason.
PrinceOfWhales
Should be relatively easy to find. Deliver his arse to jail.

The fuckery is intensifying. First the drop boxes being set on fire and now this. I assume its MAGAs doing it, but it could be Chinese/ Russian/ whoever else hates us. Sigh.

The next administration needs to go absolutely medieval on anyone messing with votes. Ten years federal prison MINIMUM for vote tampering. It is one of the most heinous crimes imaginable, let the punishment fit the crime.

1 ballot in 1000 pieces of mail? This isn't an election story. It's a lazy postal carrier story.
capnadorable
1 that they found
AranaDiscoteca
I mean, I say it's most likely a lazy postal carrier. That said, it doesn't stop my opinion that if you CAN vote in person then please vote in person. Where less bits of human error or malicious intent can get to it.
fantabuloustimewaster
Hanlon's Razor does not seem to apply here: actually dumping the mail in the woods seems to require malice rather than laziness or incompetence. Perhaps not election-related malice, but certainly criminal behavior.
whatsisname
The venn diagram of laziness and criminality have a good amount of overlap. But like the person you responded to, this sounds like ordinary criminality rather than election-stealing criminality.
MapleSyrupMafia
It's not lazy... do you know how fucked you are if the USPIS comes after you?
Bondsmith10
Do you know how stupid some mail carriers are? I've known one or two and heard of many others who lost their jobs because they did things like steal money out of a birthday card or have someone else clock in for them at work so they won't be counted as late.
ZackWester
yep isn´t there a semi joke that the only thing that can order around the US military is USPS and USPIS.
capnadorable
“It’s not political because I tossed ALL the mail, not just ballots.” Bullshit.
Volpe42
As a mail carrier I get the feeling right now to throw all the mail out the window, its like the call of the void. A thought you don't actually carry out. We shouldn't be hiring people who get to this point of just dumping stuff.
mjperk
I'm sure we all have that little voice in our heads from time to time. I know I have. The difference is choosing to/not to act, like you said.
Bondsmith10
I've never been tempted to dump mail, but political years are the only times where imagining doing it brings me joy lmao
MightyIink
So many people are going to get arrested when all this is over, just like the capital riot.
scout27302
Our only hope 🤞is getting rid of the corrupt scotus members as well as congressional and senatorial scum that support him. New honest politicians can get rid of the rest of the corruption.
scout27302
This is going to take effort on the part of the newly elected. Makes me wonder not only about the intelligence of some of these criminals but what do you do when tfg loses?
kamosey
Hyping these stories might discourage voters.
AranaDiscoteca
I'm a Florida voter so my mistrust of anything other than directly walking in is my personal damage. But... I think of it more like Omniman's "Look at what they need to mimic a fraction of our power!"
kamosey
Sure, I just worry because the main thing trumpists first attacked during the last election was mail in voting because it encourages a higher voter turnout which is to their disadvantage. So the papers hyping this might very well sow mistrust in drop off boxes.
AranaDiscoteca
But people ARE setting them on fire because they know it's an attack that works
Jarjarthejedi
If anything, the fact that these idiots are being caught immediately and the ballots either found and counted or people notified to get new ones shows how good the protections around our voting system are. All that nonsense of "you can't trust mail-in ballots at all!" is being decisively proven false this election as it's working well even under direct attack.
oozabooza
Ultimate breach of trust, throw the book at him.

We need a set of laws dealing with this exact problem. “Breach of the public trust”. And the consequences are a prohibition of serving in a job where the public must trust you. Police, public servants and even mail men must be trusted by the public. Loss of this trust should prohibit them from finding any employment in that capacity.

Sounds like you'd want the Dutch VOG (Declaration Regarding Behavior, stating you've not got a rap sheet, for mailmen, teachers etc) and maybe the stricter VGB (Declaration No Objection, also looking into compromising debts, family crime record, etc, for higher ranking officials such as embassadors and ministry aides. https://www.justis.nl/en/products/certific">nduct">https://www.justis.nl/en/products/certificate-of-conduct https://english.aivd.nl/topics/security-screening
