Sleeping in summertime

Unless you find a comfortable way to radiate/convect that waste heat to the atmosphere

Shipping services hate him!

20 lbs of wire, two steel mandrels, and two toothless plierseses

The Beginning

first four rings done!

The setup

Paracord screwed to the eaves holds the 20lb spool; the mandrel has a shallow hole in the railing to hold it steady during winding.

the biggest problem

... was keeping the wire on the spool. if permitted, every last foot of this 12ga aluminum wants to explode into a tanglesphere about 3' in diameter

four coils completed

i still mess them up like this, just less often

the solution

in part: another tie of paracord around the spool. it jumps and slips along with the tension, but is also fraying a bit here at halfway point

the other part: vicegrips to maintain tension with their weight while i cut off a coil

A completed coil

Phase One complete

that's 20lbs of aluminum springs.

Phase Two: quilting

19 may
begin: breaking bad!
the mason jar is to deburr the rings by shaking them violently inside the much-harder glass. bonus: bear-free home since may

learning curve

i stabbed a bunch of my knuckle off with those blunt pliers.

26 may
I made a couple of these patches then hooked them together

28 may
linked up patches

02 June
not big enough to help with the heat yet

18 June
This is when it became ungainly to work on at my big computer

27 July
Breaking Bad complete, starting to watch Dexter while quilting. less suspense means slightly reduced production rate.
I also abandon the 5-ring patch method.

31 July
I'm attaching one ring at a time now in a walking diagonal line - note the incomplete chunk from the top left.

OC for cakeday 5

This is the only thing of significance I think I've really made. have the OCest of my OC for my cakeday, my cold blanket.

Large surface area, allows for heat transfer through convection AND conduction AND radiation. I want one.
