my dad and I used this trick when hunting. We left a bowl of water and his hunting jacket my the crate and they'd always be there that night

one of the few times I'll upvote a repost.

Awesome! Great idea! Hope this helps more dog owners who lose their fur friends!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Agreed, to the front page with this.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

This is adorable. "This smells like master. I love master. I stay here."

Dogs are derpy little creatures

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

works with kitties as well. that's how i found my little kitten after missing for a day and a half

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really? I hope I never have to try it!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

TO THE FRONT PAGE!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It appears we have scented a winner...

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Don't trust the hunters. They secretly hunt people's dogs and scout for water bowls.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Oh my god. I'm just her scrolling through the front page a day later like. Oh looks like someone got this to the front page! Than see the op

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

This is actually good advice.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Ms, Lippy, The part of the story I don't like is that the little boy gave up looking for Happy after an hour....

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You get your ass out there, and you find that FUCKING DOG!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is also how I found OPs mom.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My cat ran away and I immediately thought of this. After doing what it said, he came back late at night, so it works for cats too!

From all the dog parents out there thanks OP

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

:) About to post one for cats soon! :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Am a dog hunter. Have lost my dog. Can confirm this works.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For a brief moment my brain thought you went out hunting for dogs, my brain is dumb.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's almost like dogs track things by scent over sound.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dog ran off and wouldn't respond to calls during grouse hunt. Left jacket on the ground and he was there the next day. Old trick!

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

And they say you can't teach a old dog new tricks

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SO's dog was left at a kennel for a family trip. Arrived at the kennel after vacation and discovered his dog had run off a couple days 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

prior. He and his family spent ALL DAY calling him and looking for him. They were about to leave when Chubby bounded out of the woods! 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

And the kennel didn't call the family to let them know they had lost their dog? They should definitely be shut down.

11 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Did they still try to charge for the full stay?

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

SO doesn't remember. Also, I had incorrectly remembered. He escaped the same day they were going to pick him up. The kennel people didn't 1/

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

chase after him or anything, though. They were out in the middle of nowhere and just brushed off that he disappeared on their watch. 2/2

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ironically, this is the pictures used: http://oddfunny.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Lost-Dog-Tastes-Like-Chicken.jpg

11 years ago | Likes 140 Dislikes 3

It's enough irony that beagles get lost. You shouldn't un-leash them because it's not in their nature to learn to return to their owners. :(

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha! That's hilarious.

11 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 1

*the picture. This is a good find, though! +1

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Ah tricking fypos ._.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The Internet LIED TO ME? *Shuts off computer, turns off modem, burns all wireless electronics.... returns to a pre-internet lifestyle...

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 3

Well I didn't know it tasted like chicken...

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

in my country, if you lose a dog in a wooded area and meet some hunters, the dog is probably dead because the fuckers killed him

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Wtf country is that? ButtholeDogMurderVille?

11 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

austria. our hunters are authorized to kill any dog or cat in the woods ior the vincinity of the woods, that isn't visibly under 1/2

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

the control of their owners. and the sickos are so intent on killing things that you can bet your ass that they do it whenever possible

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wow. Me and my precious animals are going no where near that place

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

I also used this to find my cat and it worked.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Awesome!!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I really hope this trick worked for you OP, but the Internet tells me this is just another attempt to the frontpage

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Well as it is the Internet I can see why you would believe. Read the xomments

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Comments* I'm not the only one this worked for.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My wife's pet hamster once escaped from its cage. I told her to put the cage on the floor with the door open and food/water filled. (1/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A few hours later the hamster was back inside (2/2)

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Sorry had to repost it!! My title was to long and it just looked to "unprofessional" for me to handle! :P

11 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Now your comment looks "too" unprofessional.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

I assumed you'd forgotten "my dog" and just said "Maddie" :D

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah, I try adding the whole story on how I found my dog with the trick in the title. I didn't know there was a limit. Stupid mistake.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, get your dog chipped. It's incredibly cheap, doesn't hurt the animal, and means you get called right away if the animal is turned in.

11 years ago | Likes 1343 Dislikes 0

You mean like this? http://www.wikco.com/images/bxt2.jpg

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Actually, roadkill doesn't always end up being checked, so do some research if your dog is lost and you haven't heard anything.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, chip your dogs, keep it current, and make sure you give them good tags!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good advice but note that chips can move from implant location or disappear. Check for them at each vet visit.

11 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 1

Yes! I had mine chipped when she got away but I guess no one ever found her until I did :P

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

thank you! the shelter where i work chips as many animals as possible. dogs and cats. if there are random owners wanting one, $12.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

As an RVT, it does hurt SLIGHTLY (16g needle), but worth the minimal risks.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Unless some bartender takes your dog and wont give it back because you beat it and left it in a trash can.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Also UPDATE THE INFO ON THE CHIP. Too many scanned chips are blank or have outdated info, and are of no help reuniting the dog with its fam.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, many chipping services will email other pet owners in the area so that they can keep an eye out for your pup!

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

And ffs REGISTER YOUR CHIP. Can't tell you how many we've scanned at the vet clinic where I work that have a chip but aren't registered.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I read turned ON and got really confused.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, tell the vet if you move.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes, or if you give your pup up due to moving make sure new owners update the chip info online

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And doesn't get your dog castrated. If an animal shelter finds it they automaticly castrate your dog and expect you to pay for it on pickup.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As a vet tech, I approve of this!

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

THIS. I hit a dog a few weeks ago. He was fine but had been lost for days. Vet found his chip, he's home safe now.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Give it ten years there will be human chips

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Make sure they have a tag on their collar that tells people they are chipped as well!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My cat was caught in a stupid stray-animal trap and left on her own ~3mi from here. Without her chip she might have been gone permanently.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's incredibly chip.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Or your local humane society will just snail mail you to rack up the boarding fee, collar with tags has returned dogs faster.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Collars and tags also can get off and be lost, the chip is almost permanent.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This. 100%. Many city-run animal shelters will even do it for free!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If done under sedation they don't hurt. Its a HUGE needle (larger than 14guage) and they bleed alot. Its over quick but its worth it

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

They barely bleed when I place them. They usually don't at all.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Smaller chips these days. Smaller needle. My puppy was chipped today, tiny needle and less blood than a scratch.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's actually required for all dogs here (UK) and cats too I think

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Not for cats but it should be!

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Here in Sweden too.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Who can scan those chips? I think only customs officers can, and thats like 1000 km from my home.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Any Vet. Micro-chipping is generally the norm, what country are you in?

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Vets, city pounds, you can buy a scanner yourself, that's weird only customs can scan for a chip where you're at...

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Vets and animal shelters can and do scan the chips

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, downvote me for living in a shitty country. Only few vets can install chips here.

11 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Most vets can scan them... At least in america

11 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Assuming Fido gets turned in at all.

11 years ago | Likes 96 Dislikes 1

Or the chinese find him.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

I found a well kept dog at a gas station on a road trip, spent 2 hours looking for the owner, vet found chip, owners got dog back.

11 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

A vet tech explained to me that they only scan if someone comes in and asks. Often people say they adopted the dog and disreguard chip info.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Oh, certainly, but it would be heartbreaking for your dog to be turned into a place you didn't check and end up dying because of no chip

11 years ago | Likes 41 Dislikes 0

Heard. My friend's Akita ran away and she chipped him and went through hell looking for him. It's heartbreaking.

11 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Happened to me back in '07. I was heartbroken and didn't know she had gone missing (she lived w/ my parents). They put her down 6 hrs before

11 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

we found out where she was. My mom went to go pick her up and they told her that they had put her down that AM. They had her 3 days.

11 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

My dog was gone for 4 days, luckily she was chipped and the woman who found her was competent enough to take her to the vet to check.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She slipped out of her collar and ran...because she's a dumbass, but she's our dumbass and we love her and are happy to have her back.

11 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's good to know there are decent people out there.. but there's always those few assholes.

11 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Indeed. I was very worried about that when we lost her.
