It used to take _work_ to enjoy something, dangit!
Hard to say if that was better or worse than what kids today have, but it did mean all the pride people had in their hobbies and interests was at least somewhat well-founded.

I still sort of regret getting rid of my Dragon Ball Z videotapes. I had already replaced them with DVD or Blurays, and they weren't in great shape because we had bugs at one point and some of them got into the box the tapes were in.

We had the original DragonBall on VHS with the curse of the blood rubies movie as one big box set, watched it on repeat till the tapes stopped working cause we didn't have cable for the longest time. Imagine my surprise when we finally got cable TV and I saw Toonami and Dragon Ball Z for the first time. MIND. BLOWN.
