GREAT SUCCESS!

Nov 7, 2021 12:13 PM

Small backstory: I bought the cigarettes just before I got hurt at work back in early February of this year (slipped on ice on the top of a subway stairwell). I didn't see the ice because I was lighting a cigarette. An ambulance was called because I was knocked unconcious. Woke up in the hospital with a thrown out my back, broken fibula, broken rib (which punctured my lung and left it partially collapsed) , and I broke open my skull (stairs are metal and concrete). Had to stay home for 5 months of recovery. Vowed to quit smoking that day...haven't gone back since.

TLDR: got hurt bad at work; quit smoking. Found unopened pack in winter jacket and tossed 'em away.

FRONT PAGE EDIT: Wow! You all are so wonderful! "YOU LIKE ME! YOU REALLY LIKE ME!" This is a first time front page for me! Send bobs (is that how we do this?) J/k send funny pics of dogs.

Keep going! You got this

Little tests like that are really incredible victories. Congrats.

Hope you have had a cin0kete recovery. Stay strong!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Huge effort! I just celebrated my 8 years, I've now been a non smoker for more than half the time I was a smoker! The cravings never 1/2

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 quite stop 100% but they get much easier to ignore as time passes.

What app is this?

Quit tracker

Congratulations, Friend! Gets easier every day. Sucks that you got hurt pretty bad though. Stay well, Friend!

Everyone says it gets easier but about a year later and every single moment of every day I still want a ciggy as badly as my first day quit

Instead of just upvoti g another comment, I want you to know I went thru the effort of typing this to tell you, "You fucking Rock! Well done

Congratz! That was a nasty trap.

Felt like something out of Home Alone

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I have a problem with the app showing a percentage of a year. It's not useful information.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It also tells ypu how many days you've gone without.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Seriously good work, well done!

I stopped smoking in ‘00. Three day stint in the hospital. (pneumonia) Threw my last pack in the freezer out of spite. They’re still there.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hey whats the name of the app

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Qiut tracker

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

What is the app you are using and can it be used for different things? :o

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Quit tracker is the app. I'm sure there are other applications for quitting "different things".

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nice work dude keep at it

1) Friend had a sub teach get classroom of high schoolers to toss theirs after he listed the ingredients including formaldehyde and said

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2) "next time you smoke think of it as a dead man's cock" friend stopped on his way out and picked up the packs from the trash. teach asked

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

3) "after hearing that you're still going to smoke?" "Oh I don't smoke but people are always asking to buy some off me, this is pure profit"

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Failed after three years. Stay strong friend! Good work!

4 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 1

Oh no, I was thinking I was fine, coz it’s been 3.5 years since I quit. I’ll still try to be careful then. So I don’t get back at it.

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I work in a high strung environment with (typically) angry people. It was the only thing keeping me from flipping my lid. Be strong friend.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Nah you didn’t fail. You took a break from quitting. Now get back in there

4 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Agreed! Get back on the wagon!

4 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Holy shit. I've been without for 2 1/2 years now

I still have my last pack of cigarettes from late July of 1997. I bet they’ve gone stale by now.

4 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Maybe just a little stale after 24 years and 3 months...

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If Steve can smoke something produced in 1944, 1997 is still fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DtgdbucX3nc

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

What does a cigarette taste like if it's stale?

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Like absolute trash.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Don't normal cigarettes taste like that?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bad rasins and cardboard.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I smoked for 25 years and have been quit for 8. I still have days where I want one, momentarily, but it passes, stay strong!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you and congratulations!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The only negative is that pesky “extra days you have to spend in a nightmarish hellscape” counter. Big turnoff for me

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Keep it up @op, I'm proud of you for doing this.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thank you internet stranger!

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What app is that?

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Quit tracker

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Were you really tempted to light one or was it pretty easy to throw them out since you haven’t smoked for a while?

4 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 1

I was pretty tempted to open and light one. I used to smoke A LOT at work. So anytime I'm there I have cravings.

4 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fuckin' same, I used to step out a lot at the call center as a supervisor, that job was hell after I quit.

4 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I couldn't quit until I changed careers entirely. It so hard to change behavior for me at least. Good going! Hope your back feels better too

4 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Gracias. I'm already back to work for a couple of months now. Taking it as easy as I can. How long have you quit smoking for?

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2.5 years. Was a smoker for only about 10. I'm in my late 30s. I was a bartender and drank a ton now I drink seldom, so alot ofgood changes

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Excellent job!

4 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

2700 cigs for $1600? Something doesn't add up here.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I recently quit. Was paying 12 bucks a pack for Spirits. The math ads up.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Long Island, NY prices. About $12 a pack for Marlboros.

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It was surprisingly hard to find out what cigarettes cost around here nowadays. Apparently I could pay 50% more rent with the money I save

4 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Just upped my living situation when I quit six months ago. $333 a month in cigs, or $300 more in rent for a better spot was a no brainer.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Used to smoke around ten packs a week

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nah that adds up. Here in my neck of the woods Marlboro is about 8 a pack. .40 a cig. Times that by 2700 you get $1080.

4 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Which is only about 2/3 of 1600. If I remember math, that doesn't add up.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Some places charge a lot more for a pack. Depends on your country, state, and taxes.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Did the math, it would be about 60 cents per cig which comes to $11,40 for a 19-pack. Not even Marlboro is that expensive.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A pack of Marlboro reds in NYC is $15 a pack. Divided by 20 cigs in a pack. $.75 a cig. Times that by 2720 cigs comes out to $2040.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The cost of a pack can range widely depending on where you live. So saving $1600 is quite plausible.

4 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You have 20-packs? Always 19 over here. $15 a pack is insane!
