I cut socks and wear them on my arm while driving to keep one arm from being a different color then the other. I have tried sun block. It doesn't work. So yeah. This is how I do it.
Edit: wow this is the first time I've made it to the front page! Thank you:)

The first time I met my future wife, she was wearing a sock on her arm. It's called fashion, look it up!

If you run out of socks you could always just drive in reverse.

OMG, me too! (am redhead, so I go quickly from pale to ouch with nothing in between)

Export the other sock to the UK, Aus, NZ, SA, Cyprus, Malta, India, Pakistan other Asian, Caribbean, African countries and Japan... Profit.

Thin and very breathable golf sleeves https://www.walmart.com/ip/399356636

Men who get skin cancer more often get it on the left side rather than the right.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

*in countries with left-hand drive vehicles.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There are sleeves you can get on Amazon which are tough, I wear them to protect my tattoos working outside.

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I work manual labor and buy these in large packages. They breathe very well and I use different colors for different seasons and events.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

U.V. Sleeves. I use them while driving all the time. Or out on my kayak so I don't have to use sun block.

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

¹They also make various lengths of UV gloves to protect your fingies too. I have some full arm length ones as well as some gauntlets that I

Oversimplified’s voice for me lmao

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hate the sun so much

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

As a driver with a crispy left arm, I might have to steal this idea.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

They make all kinds of arm sleeves like this for welders and metal workers.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Such a good idea!

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

AAAAAHHH! It's the abominable Headless Sockpuppet Account!

3 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

Weird. UV is usually blocked by car windows no? I have transition glasses that do not work in the car for that reason.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Not really. Not cheap company cars anyway.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If sun block don't work, use sock block.

3 years ago | Likes 866 Dislikes 1

Use sun SOCK*

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

So that's the technical term for the sock on the door knob.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

And remember to wear gloves on your feet!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Haha, I'm curious to know what goes on the middle section :D

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hats.

I have a driver's tan, but in my case, it's a smoker's tan. I don't have a balcony and I hate smoke in my flat so the fag is held out the

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 2

window. Because I am a goth, and also never liked being in direct sun, the rest of me is really pale, but I take the warm arm to avoid smoke

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

in my flat. Also, I have a small bucket that hangs out my window to ash in, so I don't get that smell inside either.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

I’d watch a Belgian movie of this

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I only buy socks with an SPF of 50 or higher

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah the thing about sunscreen is it needs to set for 15 minutes and is only effective for 80. Less, if you sweat excessively. Sock is fine.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yup this is the scary shit right here. That and skin cancer. The sun is cruel.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sock it to the sun!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How do you like your Nissan?

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's a work car. It's good. Does what I need it to

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Same

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why not get a long sleeve shirt and cut the other sleeve off?

3 years ago | Likes 111 Dislikes 17

I love that you’re 100% serious about this unisleeve idea.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You don’t need to cut anything, just roll up on sleeve

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

Then you ruin a shirt

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

A long sleeve can be rolled high on arm working class style.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To be honest, even in winter I don't wear long sleeve shirts. I will wear a jacket, but not a long sleeve. Hate them for some reason

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That’s not comfortable and the part where it’s rolled up gets really hot.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Just a guess but taking off a sock sleeve sounds like less effort than taking off a shirt and also won't wrinkle what's underneath.

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Also, for women, people tend to take notice if you change your shirt

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Uh, yeah. That does seem a bit awkward.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

There's an art to not being noticed while changing

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Love that this cost about $0.50 and everyone's making suggestions on things to get that cost much more

3 years ago | Likes 208 Dislikes 3

50 cent? If even that. Most of my socks die with holes in the toe area. If you already own scissors there are no extra costs.

3 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

darn bro

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Like a whole-ass shirt?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

My first thought was "how has this guy never heard of long-sleeve shirts?"

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My grandma cut an arm off my grandpas shirt, hemmed it, and used that to block the sun. When I inherited her car, I got the sleeve.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Who even cares if one arm is darker than the other?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 4

Skin cancer, aging skin, plus depends on your job. I'm trying to get into commercial acting and this was a stipulation-no farmer tan lines

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Good luck! I hope you make it! Sounds like an awesome job

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Thank you! I'm hoping there's a need for middle aged women. So far I auditioned for psoriasis and perogie commercials but didn't get em

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

That sucks. Keep pushing. That actor Alan Rickman started acting late in his life i think. If he can do it so can you.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I do. More about cancer than color differences.

3 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

Meh. Didnt think of that. Seems like such a low risk that i wouldnt even worry about it. I guess people who drive for a living are at greate

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 4

Most popular pic for outlining this exact phenom, googling "trucker side of face sun" gets this article.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

r risk.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I was curious and found this: https://arizonaccc.com/skin-cancer-risk-vehicles/ holy fuck 75% of melanoma on the left side!

3 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

One thing not suggest yet... and just hear me out... why not cut off the arm... can't not match if there's only one arm.

3 years ago | Likes 54 Dislikes 1

Or or hear me out, we get rid of both and replace them with a type of device for holding things together.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah that’s silly. Just buy a left hand AND a right hand drive vehicle. Swap cars every other day. Get an equal tan.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

It's also a quick way to both lose weight and get a free meal.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That's stupid. It would literally create a permanent mismatch. Good idea in general but doesn't answer OP's concerns.

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Cut off both.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

See, that would work.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

You could cut that arm off and have it attached to the other side. Then everything would be all right.

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 1

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It'd be a little hard to work that way. Maybe get it attached to the middle of my chest instead

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Then he'd need to buy f-shirts

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

⬆️ this comment is the quitesential example of comedy gold buried in a comment thread. Literally LOLed.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

So just your hand is a different color? You've got a sun glove

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Haven't noticed that yet. But I guess it could happen.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Get a pair of thigh high toe socks, cut a little slit at the ends for the tips of your fingers. Everything looks sexier in thigh highs.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

That might be too sectsy, don't want other drivers lusting after my arm.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I use tinted windows but like your style

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

It's a work car that I am not allowed to alter in anyway. Company provided.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I support your solution, besocked stranger. I won't offer an alternative to what seems to be working well for you.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I love the suggestions though. They're fun and have kept me entertained all day long.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well now you've run afoul of my fickle nature and we are sworn enemies >:-(

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's OK. I like enemies too. How do I know who I am if I don't have someone to challenge me?

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I thought that pretty much any window blocks UV. People don't generally get a tan sitting inside near a window.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Noo most stock car windows have zero UV protection

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Unfortunately not! It saves money to not have them, so of course, capitalism has done its thing.

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Apparently I was remembering that glass blocks UVB. But it doesn't block UVA without treatment. Laminated windshields block some UVA.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It may cost more, but look into UV protecting sleeves. My Dad was a a daily driver and developed skin cancer lesions on his arm.

3 years ago | Likes 59 Dislikes 2

^ This. It's common for truckers as well. If you don't have UV A/B blocking tinted windows, it's very important to consider this option.

3 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

Or UV blocking window foil

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And if you keep using socks, black ones are more likely to block more UV

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Yep. Black socks matter.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

"It may cost more, but here's another solution even though your solution is 100% effective and cheap"

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

I think a sock is unlikely to be 100% effective at blocking UV light.

3 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

well if not 100%, then somewhere in the 99.9% range, probably. at least as high as high as any kinda window treatment.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe not quite that high. The highest ultraviolet protection factor (UPF) rating for clothes is 50+, meaning less than 2% is let through.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not that I'd worry about it or the sock's UPF rating unless driving a whole lot. A cheap sock + regular car window should do pretty well.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How well does a shirt block it? I’m asking because we wear them and don’t get any damage. And shirts are quite thin compared to socks.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lots of factors that go into that, including color, material, etc. Often a looser fit protect more, because the fibers aren't as stretched.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Sometimes a UPF number is specified. A light cotton t-shirt might be UPF 5, letting through 20% of UV light IIRC (1 over UPF#).
