You should properly google it yourself, so avoid potential phishing attack. But if you can't be bothered: https://disc.bklynlibrary.org/ecard/Default.aspx and https://www.bklynlibrary.org/

What if Imgur hiding comments with low votes is the same as book censorship, and comments should be able to be revealed on request.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

They really do mean teenager because if you're 20 years old you can't sign up. Not to mention the 50$ sign up.

3 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Librivox.org and Project Gutenberg have public domain titles free, worldwide, all the time for no yearly fee. Set sail for the rest.

I say this as someone who cares about book sales, if a $6 ebook is the difference between being a racist or not just take it please

How much do libraries pay for books that were first released long ago? What about e-versions?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Will there be fees for handing in your ebooks late? ?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Never found a book that weaponized stupidity ? like social media has

$50 annual fee for out of state residents. But still a cool idea.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

A library does not serve to restrict reading. I would refuse to ban any book [yes, also books the content of which I don’t agree with]

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

damn effing commie socialist librarians ... stop teaching to read will solve this subversion

Some US states seems to be way ahead on enacting that train of thought already...

In before one of the trumpy jesus states sues them because one of the books has the word 'gay' in it.

"We're the party of 'states rights'... which is why your state can't do stuff our state doesn't like" - Them, probably

No standing - library has no branches in their state

Remember, the potatoes must be illegal and guarded haphazardly for the populace to want to go dig them up and eat them

100% of the time if you are burning books, you are the bad guy.

3 years ago | Likes 76 Dislikes 2

I dunno, I think I could see using a truckload of Ayn Rand to run a waste bioreactor for a day or three might be a net gain for humanity.

3 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

There's quite a few books written by the Trump administration people, that maybe, just maybe, I'd consider.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

What about books that tell people to burn books and tell lies and gerrymander. And pretend to make things great. And spread conspiracies?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Even then books should be archived, to show errors in history. The moment you do as them, you become them even if your intent is good.

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I upvoted your comment to prevent it being hidden, I disagree with it, but understand your intention. You still need to be read, like a book

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Lots of really good libraries do this, but you may need to live in the state and visit to get your card in person. Sunnyvale CA for example.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Looks like you can get it online now and it gives access to all the O'Reilly tech books online and many other cool things!

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So in terms of money,,,,, they are basically publishing an e-book nationwide. So it's kind of shitty if they don't renegotiate the contract.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

Especially since this post glosses over the fact that if you don’t live in New York that library card will cost you $50/year

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

IIRC, even e-books are limited by number of copies. So if some dude checks out an e-book, it gets taken off the shelf so to speak. They'll

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

have to purchase many more of them if they're going to service the nation. Idk if the contract needs to be renegotiated.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sounds pretty good.

$50 for out of state card

3 years ago | Likes 27 Dislikes 0

$50 is pretty stout. Are there other online content that would cover similar array of materials at a lower price.

3 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 0

Check your local library, usually free/super cheap to get a library card and that will generally let you use Libby or Overdrive for free

3 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

Some counties, you also just need a card number to e-rent stuff. Topeka kansas for example

3 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Use the Libby app. It's free.

3 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

There's a free ecard for teens though. Which is what this is aimed at.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

Where is that listed, because all I see is the $50 put of state fee.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

https://disc.bklynlibrary.org/card/ "For a limited time.... "

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thank you. Unfortunately their teen cutoff is actually teens so mine isn't old enough.

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You could probably put a diff birth year.

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Uh, there were children that were *ineligible* for library cards? Good to see you're getting your shit together Brooklyn, but what the fuck.

3 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 56

Libraries are local, bro. This is a library going from servicing the local community, to servicing the nation.

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

That's just piracy with extra steps!

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Public libraries are funded by local government. Anyone anywhere would usually have to sign up for their local municipal library. If you're<

It completely circumvents the state censorship of book which a few red stats have implemented.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

How - exactly - do you go about burning an audiobook?

3 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 18

What are you talking about? Nobody said anything about book burning. Let me help you https://lmgtfy.app/?q=book+censorship+in+america+2022

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

You don’t. It’s why it’s helping to combat censorship.

3 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

I probably should have put that in inverted commas. The sardonicism wasn't obvious

3 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 10

You can't, but the shithole states banning books sure aren't offering them to kids, so this circumvents that

3 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Libraries are normally like credit unions, they only serve a specific geographic area or community, the lib has expanded that to the full US

3 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

To my dumb European ass, Brooklyn *is* New York, which in turn *is* America. I will not be told otherwise.

3 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 23

Can you get books (or audiobooks) from any library inside your country?

3 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Well at least you know you're dumb, so you've got that going for you, which is sad.
