Is it time for torches yet?

Also, those decisions came from different "courts"
NightfallEverdark
So, what I'm reading is business can discriminate and colleges no longer count as businesses. Yeah, just a bang up job by the worst Supreme Court in modern history.
RandomFlotsam
Only cakes can be admitted to college from now on.

Red cakes? Blue cakes? Chessboard cakes? You need to specify.

Not chocolate or even marble!!! White buttercream only!!

No it's real simple. You cannot force a newspaper to publish anything or the media to broadcast anything. You cannot force social media to publish anything. It's called compelled speech and was unconstitutional long before gay marriage. Neither religion nor discrimination enter into it. You cannot compel someone to design a web page for you.
thegreenestknight6
Under Title VII of that federal law, no business is allowed to turn away a customer based on their status as a member of one of these protected classes. Based on recent court rulings, sexual orientation and gender identity were also federally protected classes.
SteveD31415
They're not being turned away for being gay. They're being turned away for asking her to create content she objects to.
thegreenestknight6
It’s a theoretical case that they took just to say no to gay people. Regardless, loading a template up and filling it with pictures and some words in a theoretical wedding website hardly counts as creating custom content. If she was a web designer that regularly did wedding websites (she isn’t) it would be a trivial ask and hardly considered some overbearing religious conundrum. For that matter, where in the Bible does it say thou shall not help the gays?
Raidies
They are 2 different things. Schools have to take everyone. A private business can and should be able to choose who they do work for.
3rdoption
Including race?
DarkZalgo
Not because of what the person is. Or do you think segregated businesses should come back? Because they absolutely would in the south.
Armyguy8382
But they aren't allowed to not hire or fire someone for being LGBTQ+. So, what sense does it make to allow them to do those illegal things to potential clients? And the incident this case was about didn't actually happen.
Raidies
Would you say the same thing if it was about how she won't build a web page for nazis?
Armyguy8382
That is a choice. And it is a choice to be an asshole. Don't use false equivalent questions. But I bet the SCOTUS would rule that a business would not be allowed to deny service to someone for being christian because the conservative justices are biased, corrupt party first judges.
Raidies
Also I'm not saying she should do this but it is her right to choose who she works for
Armyguy8382
No. If the people aren't breaking any laws or being assholes. She just wants to deny service to people just because of who they are. And the incident she is suing over never happened. They are trying to make it illegal to BE gay. They are also trying to allow doctors the right to deny life saving care to people they wish would drop dead.

people should be happy, a factor of institutionalized racism was struck down. if you want to be able to discriminate against people based on race (in the business or educational realm), then congratulations: you're a racist.
Mewmus
so far there are at least 4 racists on here that disagree with me. racist sacks of shit.

Treating people differently based on their race is racist, youre saying that some races need more help than others. Racist

those societal barriers to getting into college dont exist anymore, the only thing holding back anyone is who they look at in the mirror. merit alone should be how college admissions are, skin color should have NOTHING to do with it.
