Putting aside the tiny issue of operating a vehicle like that with any known problem, this seems like a big "don't break the law while breaking the law" thing, one thing might get caught, and then they take a look to find other things, and the more they find the more they keep looking and suddenly your shoddy operation is shut down. That's before you get to the road safety problem and how one thing failing will cascade into two, three, four, and it's a huge wreck, glad it was caught before that

When I first started, companies didn't maintain trailer tires very well. It was a rare week when I didn't shred at least one. Can't remember exactly when DOT started cracking down, but it made our lives as drivers a lot better.
