What do you want to bet she'll be arrested shortly for violation of the texas state law?

Either you have full control over your reproductive anatomy, or you're basically a glorified pet who has to pay taxes.

The Shirley Exception strikes again

2 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

so... medical requirements do not qualify for the exemption for medical requirements. meaning anyone who says theres an exception is lying.

2 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Back in the day, even though doctors didn’t have the testing ability they do now, they STILL had more latitude for humane abortion than these GQP laws give them now.

2 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

Anyone else concerned for what happens when she gets back to Texas after the abortion? Are they going to try and confict her of a crime?

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

A state that 'functions' like this needs to be dismantled.

How is this not tantamount to murder and/or torture?

2 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Tell me how this country sees its self as the lights of freedom??

2 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 1

They (republicans) believe it means freedom to oppress and control others and not freedom from being oppressed.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

Look at that aliens eyes and he’s in charge?

I have a theory that anyone who would take time out of their day to hold up an anti-abortion sign, grew up in a home where their mother repeatedly told them she wishes she'd aborted them.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

We're 3 weeks away from an election year. Here's hoping the Texas Dems figure out how to vocalize the inanity of these laws and capture the outrage they're leading to on the ground.

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The Dobbs decision ruled that women, unlike men, only get full constitutional rights if the local state legislature says that they can. Men don't need such approvals. And to the Republican members of SCOTUS, this is an improvement over the old days when they needed their husbands to approve. Now it's up to the legislature. Yeah for progress !!!! /snark

With global falling birth rates they aren't going out of their way to make Texas a great place to have children.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Bet you can ask any of these Repugnican politicians if they think they are qualified to diagnose and perform an engine replacement on a car, they would all likely say no. Why the fuck do they think there are more qualified than a doctor to make medical decisions for their patients?

hey Texas

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

She’s already fled Texas to seek treatment elsewhere. It’s an even money bet Paxton tries to hit her with charges for terminating the pregnancy when/if she returns to Texas. https://www.texastribune.org/2023/12/11/texas-abortion-lawsuit-kate-cox/

She’ll be charged with murder if she goes back

2 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 0

How can they prove what happened? She could’ve miscarried while on vacation. Fuck Texas. This shit sickens me. This poor woman.

Ken Paxton, and the Texas Supreme Court, are guilty under Guilty under Texas Penal Code, Title 5, Chapter 19.02, Section 2 B, of Attempted Murder in this case.

https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/PE/htm/PE.19.htm

If they can claim that they are under the influence of a "Sudden Passion", such as religious zealotry, it's only a second degree felony, rather than a first degree felony.

Not that Republicans are bound within the law apparently.

They are actively trying to kill this woman. I vote every single time, but some racist dipshit A-holes vote counts just as much as mine, and I am far outnumbered here.

2 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

So their "exemption" is meaningless. Shocking. Who could have predicted that.

2 years ago | Likes 198 Dislikes 1

only true scotswomen can get an abortion to save the life of the mother.

2 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Only you, me, and anyone that was 1/2 paying attention to the post-Roe news.

2 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 0

I really wish they were required to provide 5 exceptions as baseline examples. Their current exception is basically: guess the number I’m thinking of down to the 15th decimal point. And you can only guess once.

What sucks is her case won't go to the Supreme Court now since she will receive the abortion.

"Should Cox obtain the abortion out of state, the case before the Supreme Court is likely to be moot, Southern Methodist University law professor Seema Mohapatra told the Austin American-Statesman, part of the USA TODAY Network.

"There is no longer a legal issue for the Texas courts to consider related to whether (Cox) can get an abortion in Texas," Mohapatra said"

How is there not riots in the streets

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

It’s Texas. They have all the republicans have guns. Everyone has guns. I wouldn’t want to take to the streets in a place with that many crazy people in one place.

It should be pointed out that more women died in childbirth in 2021 than in the preceding 2 years, it in fact appears that being pregnant is actually a life threatening condition in the US, and getting more dangerous as the Republicans take further steps to prevent abortions. The maternal mortality rate in the US was 32.9 per 100,000 in 2021, the same statistic in Australia for the same year is 5.8 per 100,000! Got to ask the question right? Why?

2 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I saw a video online, admittedly it was reposted from TikTok or something so the source may be inaccurate for sure, but it basically said that it was more dangerous in the US to give birth than it is to be in the armed forces or a police officer. As your risk of death is higher.

2 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Considering delivering pizza is more dangerous than being a pig, it makes sense.

2 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

And bear in mind that our (I am Australian) perinatal maternal mortality rate is not best of breed (if you'll pardon the expression). Our rate is about 6 per 100,000. The Netherlands is about 2 per 100,000.
