I gotta share this because, as a white woman, I was absolutely appalled by this story. From https://www.metrotimes.com/table-and-bar/archives/2018/10/18/detroit-judge-tosses-gardening-while-black-case-brought-by-three-white-women

"Throughout 2017 and early 2018, three white women called police dozens of times, making increasingly serious allegations against Marc Peeples, a black man.

Peeples was building a community garden on the vacant Hunt Playground on Colton Street adjacent to the State Fairgrounds. One of the women, Deborah Nash, lives across the street from the park, while the others live nearby.

Peeples claimed the women didn't like his project, so they began calling the police, fabricating serious charges when police wouldn't come out for illegal gardening allegations. Those culminated with charges that Peeples was a pedophile, was in the park threatening Nash with a gun, and participated in a drive-by shooting.

Ultimately a judge determined that the women filed false police reports, initiated all contact with Peeples, and "engaged in a very targeted and constant harassment of the young man" that appeared to be racially motivated. The judge concluded "I found their testimony to be offensive. They should be sitting at the defendant's table for stalking and harassment charges, not Mr. Peeples. This is disgusting and a waste of the court's time and resources,"

It's insane that these women weren't charged with stalking and filing false police reports. Meanwhile, this poor man has to deal with the court fees and the destruction of his reputation. I gave to his GoFundMe page which can be found here https://www.gofundme.com/gardeningwhileblack

Why weren’t the women charged?

gee, i wonder why horrid racists seem so emboldened lately.

String em up!

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's possible it's not because he's black. Maybe they are busybody bitches who just fucking hate on anyone doing anything they dislike

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

I bet this is in s neighborhood that is being gentrified!

Likely the kind of man who would feed these snakes if they needed to eat

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

It saddens me that not one word of this surprises me.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Does anything really?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe the Purge wouldn't be the WORST thing for America.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Trump has emboldened racists. Especially middle aged, chubby white ladies.

As an Atheist, this is shocking. (is that how this works?)

7 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 2

15 k over budget on the go fund me campaign,, hopefully he can use that to sue them in return.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That sucks and all but how did it end in a go fund me?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*gardening while black*

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You should be appalled regardless of your race or gender.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Seems that justice is being served for once bit in an incomplete way. At least we are growing as a culture.

Make Racism Great Again v

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Why not just tell the story instead of adding your race at the beginning? It’s nonsensical and non value added to the conversation.

7 years ago | Likes 39 Dislikes 11

exactly. it almost like the first and last sentence of this post says it all. race and gofundme.

7 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 4

I thought so too at first.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 9

My first thought too... Not sure why she feels she has to tell everyone the colour of her skin.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

That go fund me did pretty well.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Prosecutor should charge those cunts.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

gotta comment because, as a non-white non-woman, I was absolutely appalled by this story

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 2

As a white non-woman, I was appalled at this story.

As a purple demigendered egg, I was appalled at this story.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

He was just trying to contribute to the peeples

7 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I hope he gets enough GoFundMe money to get an ak-74 and a '64 impala so he do a real drive by on these super cunts.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Good fucking luck trying to import (read: smuggle) one here

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As an imgurian, why everyone gotta start with, "As a __________," in stuff. Is it an attempt to add credibility to what they're saying?

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 3

In this case, to show that not all white women are shit, just those three.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

because they can't mention something without also making themselves a part of it, it's like the women who show a picture of something but 1/

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

make sure they are the actual focus of the image, even at the cost of obscuring what they might actually be trying to share

Its a #notall.. signifier

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

Why would you stop someone from making a garden? Do the white trash feel threatened by it?

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 5

In the US, if there's a shred of black people around a neighborhood, it devalues the property value. (1/2)

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

The one living right across the street from him may have wanted to sell her house soon. Sad, stupid and crazy, but true.

After reading the article he has grounds to sue them and press charges. He also should sue the city. Prosecutors are the cancer of 1:

7 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 2

Yes, this is how it should be handled. The way people jump to crowdsourcing to solve problems is the real fucking cancer, honestly.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Last Week Tonight had an excellent segment on prosecutors

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Our justice system that’s infected everything. They do everything in their power to convict with zero care if they are correct. 2

7 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 2

Ultimately they shield bad policing and allow people like the New York detective that falsely imprisoned 100s to thrive then we pay. 3

7 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

@op why are you always looking at the world "as a white woman". Can't you just be a person. Asa left handed person I see a lot of problems

7 years ago | Likes 30 Dislikes 8

If left handed people went out to specifically start harassing right handed people it's not unreasonable to feel a bit embarrassed. for 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Wait... sharing a dominant hand with a cunt is a reason for shame now? I’m doing this all wrong...

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Not saying it's reason for shame... but like it's *normal* or at least completely reasonable to be offput by that. the analogy still 1/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

isn't great because racism runs deep and has a history, but trying to stick w/ parent commenter's analogy. 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

What the fuck did I do that I have to apologize for that?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

never said anyone had to apologize for anything. sounds like people are getting defensive instead of fully reading my post.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

a while now we've been seeing white people calling the cops against black people for doing literally nothing which is pretty appalling 2/2

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

With the lens your looking though. As a blue eyed person I think by putting on this lens to see the world through your just gonna find ways

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 5

*things that are constantly attacking your identity if it's the only thing you see yourself as. I'm just speaking as a ten fingered person

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 3

As a right-handed, red-haired person, I agree with you.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 3

@op ask yourself. Why did you even mention that in your post? How was it even close to relevant? Do you really think anyone even cares

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

About your identity "as a white woman"?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 5

First instinct is that while the story is true, this post is a scam on the GoFundMe.

7 years ago | Likes 63 Dislikes 4

I mean, most gofundme's are scams, because it's a play on emotions. Even if a story is true, and horrible, seeking money is disingenuous. 1/

7 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 4

You're not using disingenuous correctly.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, I am.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No, you aren't. It means insincere, as in feigning ignorance. If you mean to say he's scamming, that's different.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It means a lot of things. I'm not going to debate my usage with you.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This is what a civil lawsuit is for.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 3

Where would he get the money to hire a lawyer? If people wanna give their money that's their choice.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I mean, there are pictures and updates of the garden on the GoFundMe and the guy used his name to start the campaign. Seems legit to me.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

How do they verify this person is who he says he is?

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Release their names and expose them to the sort of mob justice they seemingly endorse.

7 years ago | Likes 279 Dislikes 27

They will all be named in the judgment file, which should be public on the web.

7 years ago | Likes 91 Dislikes 0

Deborah Nash, Jennifer Morris, and Martha Callahan.

7 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 1

Their names are on the gofundme...

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Deborah Nash, Jennifer Morris and Martha Callahan. It's in the gofundme link.

7 years ago | Likes 77 Dislikes 2

MARTHA!!! Jokes aside, I hope the gofundme is partially for filing a report on these three witches.

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

No, it isn't.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

They're also listed in the gofundme page.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

And then we are just as bad as them. Theres no such thing as mob justice.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

Mob justice is not real justice. Really he should charge them in turn.

7 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

The GoFundMe states they are going to use the funds for improving the garden and bringing a defamation case against the women.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Don't know about that one. It's not like before where pitchforks and what not but i think reddit and public opinions- serious trouble

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Mob justice rarely, if ever, stops at justice. It's a dick move that can rarely be employed ethically.

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

So in USA the loser does not need to pay winner's court expenses? Making losers pay is a good way to ensure people only do truthful cases

7 years ago | Likes 603 Dislikes 4

Keep in mind this was a criminal case. Loser pays sometimes applies, but only in civil cases, for very good reason!

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Everything is designed to help the wealthy in the US. How hasn’t everybody caught on to this?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Yeah that's by design, to discourage people from taking anything to court.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

It's all part of the game. That's how big corporations can harass individuals in court and eventually win. They run out of money.

7 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 2

Wasn't this case criminal not tort?

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

sometimes the judge can make em do it, but they usually don't sadly.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nope, that is why litigation is an easy way to bankrupt someone.

7 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

Sadly that's how EA put Origin out of business the bought their company...

7 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

And why many civil suits against companies are settled instead of fought.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Everyone’s saying no, but anti SLAAP laws exist in every state for this purpose, as any lawyer with half a brain knows. This 100% qualifies.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Plus, its generally not applied. What happens when somebody hires expensive lawyers to win an unjust case, then dumps the fees on the loser?

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This wasn't a civil case, it was criminal. Paying the winner is often the case if asked for in civil cases. 1/

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My guess is this isn't the end of the story and a civil suit will be forthcoming.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Holy Fuck, i didnt know this is a thing in other countrys. We need this yesterday.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

In this case the loser would be the government.

7 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

And the falsely accused

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Since this was a criminal case, the loser was the government, not the women who made the complaints.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

In civil cases that is possible.

7 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

a court doesnt just determine the "truth" but the legal judgement. Genuinely both sides can have good cases, but only a judge can decide.

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This wasn't a civil case, though. Sounds like these were criminal charges.

7 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

He'd have to counter sue in civil court for damages

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It's also inhibits cases from being pursued that maybe should because that risk cuts boths ways. Just because you're right doesn't mean

7 years ago | Likes 44 Dislikes 3

The court is capable of determining that to be true. So you would punish people who don't win yet technically were wronged.

7 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 0

I was just thinking about this. Namely the OJ Simpson case.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Are you familiar with the term “crap shoot” nothing is for sure except death and taxe

7 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yes, unfortunately. You can try to counter-sue someone in civil court or, possibly, press criminal charges for harassment.

7 years ago | Likes 269 Dislikes 2

Don't know for other European countries, but in France, if you make false accusation you are automatically prosecuted, and fined (or jailed)

7 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

What if you were actually right and sued, but lost the case? Then are you doubly screwed by both the defendant and the court?

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

If you were actually right, it was not false accusation not forgery, don't you think?

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

(1//2) My point is the courts don't always get it right. Innocent people are locked up and the guilty go free in many cases. Imagine a

7 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

But they rarely rule in favor, and good luck actually getting the money. Instead you usually just spend even more, so most don't try.

7 years ago | Likes 48 Dislikes 0

So far, the $5k GoFundMe has raised over $20k. Here's hoping any spare money is spent counter-suing to restore his reputation.

7 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Justice and opportunity in America depend on how much money you have. Country of freedom my ass.

7 years ago | Likes 40 Dislikes 4

Everyone is free enough to fuck over everyone else. So they do.

7 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

But they aren't. You are much more free to fuck over people you have more money than. At least legally.

7 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Only if you have money.
