When the law becomes corrupt, only extrajudicial measures will give justice.
rongoins1
Their 2020 efforts were attempt to overthrow a valid election, they were and are criminals.

TRUMP USED AUTOPEN THAT MEANS IT'S INVALID.

But the Presidential power of pardon only applies to federal crimes. State crimes are unaffected. And then there's the matter of federal v state courts https://www.azd.uscourts.gov/content/can-federal-court-overrule-decision-state-court
saloonmen
As I said before, it’s easier for Trump to pardon the convicted, than feed hungry Americans.

What is on his chest? Like some sort of geriatric support?

Anyone else think he had long hair like the krypt keeper from looking at the thumbnail of this?

So another goddamn thing to add to the list: eliminate Presidential pardons.
zzz777
For fuck sakes: Trump needs to stop with the 2020 election bullshit; literally everyone knows the 'steal' is bullshit, stop drawing attention to it and let it go. These people; fuck them for not lying more convincingly. They had the paper bag to lie their way out of it and they failed, that sucks, fuck them.

Rudy was immediately re-arrested today for smacking his beeyatch while high on coke. Additional weapons charges are pending.
SometimesISayHistoryStuff
Alright, to clarify, he pardoned them for federal crimes, which as far as I'm aware none of them are charged with. Giuliani and Meadows have been charged with state level crimes. This pardon did nothing directly. It is probably pretty symbolic and a message of Trump's willingness to abuse his power to guard his own, but we already knew that.
Now will it put pressure on states to also find them innocent? Not officially. But unofficially? It's possible.
thundercactus
Furthermore, the thing ruining Giuliani's life is a CIVIL suit verdict in which he was found extremely liable of defamation, and rightfully made to pay out a huge amount of damages, which cannot be pardoned.
Darklinkinfinite
Technically, accepting a pardon comes with an assumption of guilt. It’d be hilarious if the pardon is what tipped the scales against them on state charges.
welluhwhatdoyouwantmetosay
The courts have ruled that accepting a pardon is an admission of guilt. They can be forced to testify, as they cannot plead the 5th. We now have an admission that there was a conspiracy to overturn an election.

Here in France, former president Sarkozy was given a 5 year prison sentence. He has just walked after serving only 20 days.

the last time an aristocrat got off scott free in France they had to leave the country for their own safety. wonder what's going to happen this time.

No, state the facts: he got released on house arrest while awaiting his appeal. While it feels frustrating, it's a very normal thing to have happened.
daguq
Except that the judge that sentenced him said that under no circumstance would he be allowed out. He's free, he's at home with his feet up. Him and Justice Minister, Darmanin, are thick as thieves.
INeedMoreGifMeMoreJustOneMore
Yes, but THAT judge didn't have a say in the actual ruling of whether or not he would be released on house arrest. He could say whatever he wants, it has no effect.

We need to rewrite those pardon rules - even if it hurts. No pardoning family members. No pardoning friends, donors or co-conspirators.
slyvic
Unlimited pardons is crazy. They should have some sort of limit. I'm sure when they wrote the rules they didn't think someone would have a stack of 100s of papers waiting to be signed like some fucken fan mail.
Ghlargh
Just get rid of pardoning, it's completely broken that one person can decide to go straight against court rulings with no checks.
Beldie
Instead of pardoning, maybe a forced re-sentencing would be better. So if for example someone is in prison for drug possession, then drug laws are reformed, a re-sentencing trigger would re-evaluate the sentence based on new laws, which would free people who are convicted of things that are no longer crimes.
Ghlargh
Yes, but this should be available for anyone, not just people who are friends with the current leaders.
tinydog
If Biden hadn't pardoned his family, they would probably all be in jail right now.
RichardPenne
That is true.
johnvilnis
And for no real crimes either.
Four years and the GOP found nothing to charge any Biden family member with a crime.
In fact it was all based on Russian lies.
GrayWhiteWolf
you're contradicting yourself. so 4 years the justice department tried to get them but could because there was nothing? seems like working as intended, why do we need pardons again?
tentacularfleshscape
No. They failed to get any charges to stick prior to gaining control of the entire federal government, and they would have potentially succeeded now that they can rig everything in their favor. They're currently going after Comey and Bolton with spurious bullshit, but the potential for damage is still there
johnvilnis
Notice I said GOP not the DOJ who did work out everything against the Biden’s was based on a lie.
Republicans like Comer and Jordan spent years alleging Biden took bribes and pay for play and they found nothing to support their claims.
But they said they would never stop even when Joe left office.
