I’ve been on hundreds (thousands?) of flights tbh it’s so many I lost track a long time ago. A fuckton of flying. Never -not once- has it occurred to me what color the pilots might be. Flown in super bad turbulence, ice, lightning, all I have ever thought is “hoooo boy I hope s/he can steady this thing”. Be purple IDC. You’ll get a nod and a TYSM as I deplane. Like, WTF is she even on about???
That's the irony. Racists have somehow convinced themselves that the way to getting the best qualified candidates for every job is to limit the hiring pool to one ethnic group that's got inherited advantages in connections, ability to access training, and so on. Me, I'd rather every group get full access to education and training and opportunity, so someone with a natural talent for flying doesn't waste their life because they couldn't afford flight school, or got beaten out for a nepo baby.
I don't pray. I believe the pilot is just as concerned in landing safely as I am, regardless of race creed or colour. I wonder if all pilots who are not 'White' will voice their disgust at this? Perhaps they should all go on strike. That will cause a bit of an upset, lol.
Real talk, Pilot Unions are about to start contract negotiations at the end of 2026. We aren't going to go on strike over random comments by low level political figures and risk our livelihood over bullshit like that.
Now, if ATC manning gets worse and flight safety becomes compromised, pilots will strike over that in a heartbeat. The pilot union is safety first, pay/benefits second.
Yeah, funny, but I spent four years doing FCIF (aircraft flight certification). It didn't take long before I started praying before every flight, still do.
I used to fly, a lot, had a few emergencies and had to return to the airport (one time, they said someone had a heart attack and we returned to the airport, but it was a lie... we changed planes).... I assumed mid-air collisions were nearly impossible given the shear amount of control in the air (specific lanes/altitudes/speeds and anti-collision radars, etc...), but it turned out I was just lied to, a lot.
Can someone explain this to me — what does she think the right answer is? Is she expecting people to say they think about the race of the pilot when landing? I am legitimately confused…
It's doublespeak, she intentionally leaves the "correct" response ambiguous so as not to contradict the party's priorities while still being able to claim that safety is the primary concern.
Came here to say the same thing. What’s the point she’s making? ARE people praying the pilots are white? Or are they praying they land safely? I’m so confused
The point *is* that they pray that they land safely, but externally *say* that the problem is minorities in the FAA/ATC. Because DEI policies have literally 0 effect on the function of the FAA and ATC. And yet that is what the right attack, and not the *actual* policies or functions or safety briefs and lessons of the FAA. The one thing they target is policies that help minorities and the disadvantaged to enter the field when they otherwise would not have the funds for the education, etc.
So, to clarify she's kind of saying the opposite of what she means. She *claims* people are praying about safety, and thus that DEI policies don't matter if you get rid of them. Yet curiously DEI policies are *what they are targeting* and not the actual safety mechanisms of the FAA/ATC system. The one thing they are dismantling is the leadership and programs for minorities, under the *guise* of caring about safety
It kind-of makes more sense when you realize they don't actually care about *anything* they talk about *other* than making life harder for minorities. DEI policies they don't give an actual shit about other than getting rid of them makes life harder for a specific class of people. FAA/ATC safety policies and programs? They don't give a real damn about it. It's just the scapegoat of the day. And you can expand this to every aspect of the country. They just want to hurt people, and justify it.

Wife is a flight attendant and now I’m even more worried something could happen
dangerm0use
So will the pilot now only attempt a safe landing if they’re advised that people have prayed for it?

I think SHE prays they are a certain color

As an atheist I don't pray, but if I did, the only color I'd have in my prayers is orange - get fucking rid of it!

The American fascination with prayer and how mainstream the cosplay around it as an every day metric has become is disconcerting.

Yes, I would prefer a skilled pilot over a C- white guy whose uncle knows the airline CEO

Pray?
PerthAussieMike
Apparently she and her other MAGA cult members pray that 'White Jesus' will look after them, lol

Is this real?

Yes there's audio in another post

Wait - hold up - did... did she just say you should pray for your pilot's skin color? /gallery/kTh0OZB
Sebastopol140
I would pray that the pilot was not an absolute moron... I mean... like an uneducated MAGA voter.

"I'm sorry but I feel too brown to fly today".
aloharamada
One would hope the ones who are white would voice their disgust at this and go on strike in the name of solidarity, too.
PerthAussieMike
Very true. Nationwide pilots strike unless the GOP Administration apologises, lol.
aloharamada
Apologies aren't worth shit, don't think that will cut it. People don't go on strike to hear empty platitudes.

Air traffic controllers too. “Severely mentally challenged” should not go unchallenged.

Until recently, the idea of praying on a US domestic flight seemed unnecessary to me....
senseicombs
It still is unnecessary. It still has the same effect on the outcome. None.

Just don't pray in a funny language. You'll get a different one way ticket.

A reminder that in 1903, the first powered flight to 1969, landing on the moon, 66 years passed...
From 1967, the first 737 flight, to 2024, 57 years passed and we got a slightly wider 737.
