These are the two images from :https://imgur.com/gallery/tdYY2 Super imposed on top of each other, you would be forgiven for not realizing it because They're Exactly the Same. It's so easy to prove, why do people who obviously have some talent still bother to embarrass themselves like this? The stop motion video from the post proves nothing. It's easy to drop the frames where you placed the paper over your screen to make sure things line up, then do the easy fill job without tracing.
TheTarnishedTroll
Wow. Well aren't you the salty little bitch? LOL! Wehh! HE TRACED IT!! WEHHH!! MOMMY!! LOOK!! HE TRACED IT!! LOL!! What a little bitch. smh
Brigwyn
Let me get this straight. Because other artists have used this technique then all other artists must do so as well? GTFOOH I don't think so

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/120361062 This video may clear things up. I did use some tricks to get the sketch right, but it's not traced.
Joeytje50
Even though I'm probably gonna get downvoted as well, I just wanted to say I support you @DougCarleton. I already thought it was Sketchy.
NoForethought
I appreciate it, taking a lot of flack.
docwilco
Isn't it just a photoshop? Change to greyscale, add an autograph?
jackedape
Could easily be. There is a difference between original art and traced copy work. To be fair it probably took more effort than most posts
AVoiceOfReason
This post really backfired on you. Next time, try to make sure OP or the artist actually claimed it was freehand. The shading is still (1)
AVoiceOfReason
spectacular. Projecting/tracing/etc is common anyway. The hard part is actually shading and detailing the image, not drawing the outlines.
Znayx
Yes, like honestly. Being able to imitate human feature details on such an accurate level even within defined outlines is awesome

Tracing is not a sin, passing it off as freehand art is.

Should the artist give a full view of surroundings when doing this to show mirrors and such periodically?
NoForethought
If his art lines up pixel for pixel with the source image, then yes.
FourTwentyBootyWizard
Even if it is traced the shading is real. That is damn impressive either way.
NoForethought
I as much as said that in the post, they obviously have skill, but why pass it off as a freehand drawing if it clearly isn't.
grabyerpitchforks
When did they try to pass it off as free hand?
badfitz99
because there's literally a video what shows IT IS free hand. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjjvlu6GENQ
NoForethought
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim's_Vermeer it's a tecqnique that predates cameras called a "camera obscure"
NoForethought

badfitz99
Not to mention it isn't even traced and there's a fucking speed-draw of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mjjvlu6GENQ
jackedape
Could be traced with Camera Lucida, still cool either way. http://neolucida.com
badfitz99
Their youtube channel is filled with drawings just as good. https://www.youtube.com/user/VFreddyArt/videos 1/2

And stuff drawn like that isn't impossible incase anyone thinks that. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LMMG1abVUQ 2/2

Can you show me where OP claimed it was freehand?
CatsandUnicorns
https://www.youtube.com/shared?ci=FJ2Abw_uQEg

OP isnt the artist. By not showing the method you are as much claiming it to be freehand.
LoveMeAJuicyCupcake
Your a knob mate. Why don't you try and appreciate something incredible instead of tryna call everyone out on everything
NoForethought
You're* missing the point. I appreciate the talent, I don't like the unrealistic expectation it puts on aspiring artists 1/2

who see things like this and think they'll never become as good. I humbly recommend https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim's_Vermeer 2/2

"Van Gogh puts unrealistic expectations on aspiring artists who see things like his work and think they'll never become as good"
NoForethought
omittance of pertinent facts is a lie.
LoveMeAJuicyCupcake
Your assuming they passed it off for freehand.
NoForethought
I'm assuming nothing. I'm saying they at no point show their method, just an overhead view of the drawing. 1/2
NoForethought
This documentary does a much better job of explaining my frustration with this sort of work https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tim's_Vermeer
Idontgetjokes
The impressive bit of this isn't the linework, even if he or she traced it, or projected it, the impressive bit is the shading details.
NoForethought
I as much as said that in the post, they obviously have skill, but why pass it off as a freehand drawing if it clearly isn't.
Idontgetjokes
you referred to the shading as the easy fill job, and the author never claimed that he or she didn't use projection so I dont get your point
NoForethought
you've put words in my mouth, I did not refer to the shading as an easy 'fill job' I've credited them with having talent. Read it again.
AreThoseMyPants
That's odd. Someone must've hacked your account and added "...things line up, then do the easy fill job without tracing" to the description.
Xolan
"I did not refer to the shading as an easy 'fill job'" - OP
