Been thru at least 1 derecho and few microbursts and they're all like this: calm weather suddenly turning into hurricane force winds and torrential downpours, followed by calm weather again. Totally trippy to go thru. (Derechos are typically bigger, last longer, and travel further than microbursts)
I'll never forget the day I lived through a microburst. 100% midwesterner when your dad yells "everyone get in the basement now!" while remaining on the porch to watch the show and you keep walking toward the front door
Mine would typically just stand at a window (varied according to which direction the storm rolled in) and just stood there, watching, with his hands on his hips. One storm sent my mom and sibling to the basement when a tree crashed down and juuuuuust missed the house...meanwhile, Dad's still upstairs, watching, with Mom hollering at him to get his butt downstairs. You aren't a true Midwesterner if you don't ignore the potential danger and just watch the storm
The only time I've gone into the basement for a storm was when we had a bad one roll through this past summer in the middle of the night. Nothing to watch so I can't see it coming if it does. Not gonna chance it.
Holy shit I lived in some random town for grad school and got caught in a microburst (never seen one in my 35 years, never heard about them) while on a break from some part-time job. I thought it was the fucking rapture. Then when I went back inside and asked around people seemed not interested didnt respond to my questions checked the local FB page no one knew what it was THEN I thought it was aliens. Six months later someone was like huh, sounds like a "microburst"
We had a microburst at the hs I worked at once. Luckily it was during the day, but that shit ripped down our outfield fence AND the batters' eye. It was wild to see. I was at the end of a long hallway that had sliding glass doors, and shit was just flying by.
I wondered if it's not their house. Like maybe they were out for a walk and had to take cover. I filmed a microburst at my house a few years ago and it happened without warning then cleared up in less than a minute. My neighbor had gone out to get her mail and had to take cover across the street (closer to the mailbox) leaving her baby alone. Our neighborhood lost over 100 trees.
Devylin
That camera work was very sloppy. Reset everything and shoot it again.
MmmmmSoup
So they hardly got anything on camara why the fuck didn't they go inside then
BobHubert
I love when storms blow through where I live (if they aren’t too intense anyways) /a/OORKDqh
AnonOmis1000
That tree looks like it had no roots
VodkaReindeer
Does a tree make a sound if it falls right behind you? Apparently not.

I'm such a weirdo I love bad weather. It is going to kill me someday sleeping through it because it calms me.

Go inside!

The three w’s of global warming… warmer, wetter, and wind-ier
TheLeanWolf
So those shaky-cam movies are actually being realistic when they turn away during the most interesting parts?
Exowe
Yes you also have to save on CGI costs in real life, not everybody knows that
yepitspuck
You can just see the reflection of the tree toppling over.
ProfessorDumbass
Zero root growth..looks like it would fall over from a good fart
hergurh
nothing can harm you if you're recording with a cell phone
SacrificialClam
Yep, the perpetrator is too afraid to be put on blast on social media
gemaeuer
"when you hear sirens: go out and film!" .. got it
HassyWan
Why do I feel like camera person should be, oh idk, in a bath tub with a mattress on them is n stead of… outside!!!
LrrrRulerofThePlanetOmicronPerseiVIII
Don’t worry, the glass door will help shield them
lonelyrangerofthedreams
Yes, let’s keep filming while objects exponentially bigger keep falling always closer to me!
EleganceIsDead
PeeterGrant
Was the person filming just walking by or from the house? Why stay outside?
Cynnith
The door probably opens outward. I thought they were trying to open the door, but the wind was keeping it closed.

What a nobber. I enjoyed them trying to get back inside, hahahahahaha....nobber.
snaggletoof
Looks like the tree just barely missed the car and house? Extremely fortunate if so.
METROlD
Is this one of those horror things where if you turn your back on the tree it will keep chasing you?
horseman05
I think your tree got sleepy.
Datsinginguy
All of the trees went to sleep. All of them.

When your home sits under the alarm, you also need to pay attention

With headphones, it's pretty easy to hear it's added in the clip, there's zero reverb or echo when it stops.
katejo2000
Was he locked out of his house? I feel like there was a panicky bit near the end.
thebonesofmyancestors
Someone suggested that since the storm door opened outwards, that they were not able to open it against the wind.
katejo2000
oh damn so it was panic.
unfortunatelynotdeadyet
I wonder what that loud alarm was for?
MetalPsychologist
Trying to reach you about your extended car warranty

It was added later

Moron alert! :D

It was to remind people to take their phones out and start recording
westPAguy
Dang, I wanted to see the tree fall.
RestlessVagabond
You can see it a little in the reflection of the glass.

You can see the base of the trunk start to go as he's facing the window.

Tornado or microburst?
QueefMalone
Yes.
BeardedWonder82
Or straight line winds
PeeterGrant
Purge
InnocuousCat
Or possibly a derricho. We had one in southern Ontario a few years ago. They lead the storm, so there's no warning that it's coming
XennialDad
EF3 tornado. Little Rock, Arkansas. March 31, 2023.

Yup. We had one last year. Fuck up a LOT of trees. Winds hit like 145.
iwhannafly
Yep or a super cell its a tornado that comes straight down

That was my nickname in highschool

Could be either, but the cameraman is a certified moron

Musamura0987
Yah. It's dangerous in that kind of wind because once it gets going, good luck opening the front door.
kerrigan778
It's a sliding door in the video because it's clearly somewhere where this kind of thing happens.
Exyr
That siren isn't real so how thr heck would they know whats happening
joot78
Well, most places with houses and streets like this also have weather forecasts.
Exyr
Microbursts are sorta unpredictable. The clouds just open up and let the low pressure equalize
MadMontyMN
He filmed it and then retreated behind a glass Shrapnel barrier. Dude's a moron
