I hit the floor at Comic-Con this year in a full suit of armor that I built with Terry English. People figured out this was me in costume in about 3 minutes. There's video of my walk here: https://youtu.be/qnx1WiMETG0

Why armor? As background, I saw Excalibur when I was 14. I loved it so much, I went home and built myself my own suit of armor (and horse) out of cardboard.

Recently I called up master armorer Terry English, who designed and built the armor in Excalibur, and asked if I could learn to make armor with him. He said he'd been waiting for years for someone to ask.

Last month I spent a week at Terry's shop in Cornwall, designing and building the suit. Tested filmed it.

In the end, we made 120 separate pieces of formed metal attached with 400 rivets.

I did notice I was stopped less on the floor this year, I guess because I am usually dressed as an iconic character like Chewbacca or No Face.

This is my friend David Silverman, of the Simpsons.

The suit is made of aluminum, so it's actually quite light.

Norman Chan of Tested took all these photos. He's such a talented photographer.

A lot of people have asked if this was a really hot costume. It actually wasn't bad. I've worn hotter.

This was actually my longest walk on the Comic-Con floor I think in the history of doing Adam Incognito (which is 10 years now).

We tend to do Incognitos in the morning, since by the afternoon -- especially on Saturday -- you can't MOVE on the floor.

This was Incognito #2 out of three this year that I did at Comic-Con. If you guys like the photos, I'll most photos from the others. Video from the walk is here: https://youtu.be/qnx1WiMETG0

How much does it cost to make a gorgeous suit like that?

That's so metal

8 years ago | Likes 26 Dislikes 0

Why didn't you make it out of steel and harden it so you could have knight battles

Bite my shiny metal ass!

I remember the story of your first suit of armour from your ted talk. Awesome to see you actually made this.

I dub thee, Sir Savage! You may rise...er, more than you already are.

You will ride eternal, shiny and chrome. .

Adam!!!

You're just the coolest. Why am I not surprised you also loved that armor? I drew it a lot as a girl. Love you!

A finer, more glorious reproduction of the armorial art t'were ne'er to be seen, m'lady, blessings be upon your pretty, patriotic pupils.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

This is really cool, also, I miss mythbusters. :'(

8 years ago | Likes 202 Dislikes 4

Check out The White Rabbit Project on Netflix. It's not quite the same idea, but it's Kari, Tory, and Grant doing Mythbuster-style stunts.

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

I thought it was pretty bland. Basically listverse but in 30 minute segments instead of 5 minute articles.

8 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

The problem is that Kari and Tory and Grant are the comedy relief from the bigger Adam and Jamie stories - without them it's just silly

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Much as I love the Junior's, it has none of the flair of Mythbusters, I was really disappointed in it :(

Adam, you live a charmed life! Bravo for the creativity! Bravo for asking Terry English to work with you. And he had waited to be asked!

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I love your incognito videos. :)

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

@mistersavage So very jealous that you got to work with Terry English, I think we mere mortals would never have had the courage to ask him.

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

@mistersavage You need to do a really poorly done cosplay one year. Just so people don't feel bad. Also to throw people off.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Looks... SAVAGE. HAHAhaha... Ha.. Ill show myself out...

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

It was actually my good friend David Shrimpton that found him...and got to go see his panel because of it!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Aww.. I'm so glad you got to work with a master arm.. Armor.. Smith. Guy. I'd love to do that. @op it looks amazing :) real metal > worbla..

"Nothing to see here...move along"--Adam Savage...probably.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I always wanted to be a knight in shining armor, too, when I was young. You should've come there by horse :D

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Did you walk around saying "neee"

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

So you have Norman following you around taking pictures? Gee I wonder how people figured out it was you. :P

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Next year Adam Savage should dress as Adam Savage.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I looked for you for about 5 mins, until I realized how many people were actually at the exhibit hall! Ended up chasing comic signatures.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

So he's not the guy with a few cameras on him recording him from multiple angles?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have one camera following me, but usually from far behind.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Except the photos are from the front, and we can see the cameraman? In one of the photos the camera guy is getting stared at vs. the suit.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Man I love this. I really miss your show too.

Aluminum though? Terrible protection.

8 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I notice you have no sword, was this intentional or were weapon imitations not allowed inside?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

We needed a wristband for the sword and weren't allowed to get it beforehand. The line was huge when I arrived, so I left it with a friend.

What material is that black mask made of? Did it limit your vision much?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Excalibur!! Great choice.

8 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 0

Eventually people are going to start unmasking strangers "ARE YOU ADAM SAVAGE?! Oh sorry." "ARE YOU MISTER SAVAGE?! My bad." "AHA! ARE YOU-

No, this is Patrick

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Then he would reply with: And I would of gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I'm about the right height and weight to fool people. All I need is a great costume with a mask, some spare time, and a reason for mutism.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

That's probably how the people who DID find him did it, just minus the "unmasking" part. Find an obscuring cosplay, ask.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

W-W-W-WHAT ARE YOU, ARE YOU A SIMULATION? HUH? HUH, YOU FUCKIN -- ARE YOU A SIMULATION, MORTY?!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Also, a tailing Norm might hint at a nearby savage.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

You would have found Grey Worm ;)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thats master savage

Okay, extra perfect costume for next year: Adam Savage wearing a Brian Cranston mask under his incognito costume.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Perfect costume: latex Adam Savage mask under your incognito costume, and just rip off your costume mask every hour or so.

Adam and Jamie did an episode about masks if I remember correctly...I wonder if they still have them. @mistersavage?

Who is Adam savage?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Who are any of us really?

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

The less serious half of Mythbusters. If you aren't familiar with Mythbusters look on You Tube.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The person this whole fucking post is about.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

And by. If you didn't notice

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Yeah, but saying he made the post won't help if he legit doesn't know who he is.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

There was no real reason to be confrontational about it which is why I reacted in kind. If they don't know, explain.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's also possible they don't recognize the name. Maybe the redheaded myth busters guy would have worked

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mister Savage, how would one go about getting a similar suit of armor, short of knowing Terry English and making it with him? I love the --

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

--outfit and I'm similarly inspired to cosplay in armor, I just haven't the faintest clue where to start other than buying overpriced --

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

-- LARP gear and having it not-fit-right. In the long run, is it better to try and learn to make it yourself or to shell-out the money to--

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

-- have a blacksmith custom-make a suit for you?

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

At @op you mean, who is the Armoury Apprentice. I wonder when you stop being that and become qualified is there a test?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

So all that was made in less than a month? Incredible!

8 years ago | Likes 289 Dislikes 2

The kinds of speeds skilled blacksmiths and armourers can hammer this stuff out is insane. My teacher can make a knife in about 5 minutes.

8 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

You'd be surprised how quickly even the original suits were made sometimes. Nuremberg got the division of labor down to an art.

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Yes!

8 years ago | Likes 236 Dislikes 0

Aluminum is not usually pictured as malleable for shaping. Was it an alloy for such, or mainly technique?

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I made a suit of chainmail and scale... 2 years of on off work and made some for my dog too

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Can't wait to see the vid of you guys building it, do you know when it will be out?

8 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 0

This fall, most likely.

8 years ago | Likes 85 Dislikes 0

Did you already know most of the techniques required or did you have to learn a thing or two?

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 1

What does one wear under a full suit of armor?

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

8 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

A gambison. Think of it as a very padded long sleeved t-shirt, then the chain mail goes on that, then the plates of armour.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Ironically, a kilt. Or another suit of armor. I can't figure out which is funnier.
