First homemade Chess board

May 16, 2022 1:46 PM

Finished product. Very simple, no border.

Started by cutting squares of walnut and oak. The oak i didnt take a pic of cause it was a banister. So i recycled it and made something new.

I glued 4 strips together, plained them. Then cut them into peices and glued them in an alternating pattern.

Final glue and clamp to put both halfs together.

Sanded and finally putting a wax finish to help the natural beauty of the wood shine through.

We made these in high school wood shop. I sucked. But at chess boards I rocked. Good job!

Looks good. Pretty thick and study! You can incorporate it into a chess table fairly easily.

My father in law loves chess and only makes cutting boards. “Well you would think…” No. “Well why doesn’t he…?” No. “But…” No - autistic.

I made one just like it out of Yellow Heart and Purple Heart. Beautiful stuff.

I wish I did. It was a full cabinet set. Left it at my friends house where we played. Then the house burned down. :-/
