Iffy rhetoric. America needs a serious overhaul of its gun control laws, the most vulnerable of its citizens (children) suffer immensely under the current status quo. With that in mind, a mass disarmament would not be carried out in good faith and should be resisted.
Though frankly, I'm very skeptical of the American notion that the guns are there to oppose government tyranny. Most pro-gun Americans seem to be pro-tyranny.

No, people should absolutely not carry firearms on the streets. That is incredibly unsafe for EVERYONE. People are idiots, and hot-tempered, and if lots of them have firearms then you just have more people getting shot and killed for no goddamn reason. Open carry is one of the dumbest ideas that exists. Even the notoriously lawless "Wild West" didn't let people open carry.

That’s the justification for most people with guns in the US (self defense). And yet, the statistics repeatedly show those guns are more likely to be used against you (or a family member). The idea that you need a gun is why everyone looks at the US and thinks they’re insane.

If you google that stat, you find it popping up mostly with anti-gun groups, not independently. As for your gun being more like to harm you than another, that's just inherent in using a gun, when compared to how likely I am to be the victim of violence. Finally, Rutger's study on Defensive Gun Use being lower than Exposure to Gun Violence makes sense when you replace guns with fire and extinguishers. If you own an extinguisher you're less like to use it than you are to be in a burning building.
