That'll do Buford, that'll do.

The future of American social services.

if you can herd a child, you can herd a sheep

Dog: "Hey John! Look what I found out by where the woods meets the fields! Want me to herd him in with the goats? The other three and I can take it from there."

That kid was safe AF with Buford. I saw a pic, and that dog is a unit.

So, when's the Disney verison of this coming out?

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Dogs are the best thing humans ever made.

11 months ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Yup and by ans large as a species we no longer deserve them.

Dog only walked a mile with the kid... Kinda underwhelming if you read the whole article

11 months ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

not really at all considering if the dog hadn't been there the kid could have died

11 months ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Actually what it says is someone followed the tracks for a mile and confirmed they where both walking that entire distance together.

This seems vaguely reminiscent of a story about a dog who realized if he pushed kids into a river and then fetched them he got treats....

Looks like an Anatolian Shepherd with those little black highlights. If you're a lost child in the woods that's like in the top 5 dogs you want to find you.

From the photo it appears that Buford just finished eating the sheriff, so...good boy.

I swear, dude. Domesticating wolves was a solid idea. All seems to be downhill from there by comparison. https://media4.giphy.com/media/v1.Y2lkPWE1NzM3M2U1ZGRqNTBncTZjbmthbnhnY2Q5eWx1cG05b2k3c21odnhkaHNnNDE0NSZlcD12MV9naWZzX3NlYXJjaCZjdD1n/YO9XgJrhZXFSM/200w.webp

There are videos of cats saving kids.

cats ate her face

Not cat job. Cat purrs, dog herds humans.

How did a two-year-old get that far?

11 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Observing an experiment is said to change its outcome. In the same sense, observing a toddler affects their coordination. The moment you take your eyes off of them, they become marathon sprinters and master locksmiths with the ability to get into any situation imaginable, provided those situations are dangerous.

Marathon sprinters? Those little tykes can do short range teleportation.

11 months ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Oh, I have had a few scares like that and the boy was just hiding in the desk cabinet he was able to fit into. Impromptu hide n seek with a toddler will about give you a heart attack.

I can report that Buford celebrated this win with a juicy steak.

12 more children have been found since.

Locals: He just keeps bringing more kids. These ones aren't even missing! We don't know where he's getting them!!!

It's the classic perverse incentive anecdote: there was a cobra problem Delhi in India during the British occupation. The occupier set a bounty for every killed cobra. Eventually, when the cobras were dealt with, the locals started breeding them so that they could continue to receive the bounty.

Kid's lucky it was this early in the spring. A few more weeks and a lack of water might have done him in.

And they had just gotten snow on that area recently too

11 months ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And, he’s lucky a dog found him. It doesn’t matter the time of year, kids that age don’t survive alone outdoors for long

IIRC the search helicopters spotted two mountain lions during the search.

Good that he stopped aging

11 months ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

There's only 1 way to stop aging, and it ain't good.

Yeah I grew up in the rockies, high enough altitude that you had to drive through the clouds to get to my town and I was pretty much not allowed inside. Not in a bad way my parents just said no TV come back for dinner go explore. We went pretty far, my house was the last one before thousands of miles of national forest and we'd need 2-3hours to get back home sometimes once we turned around. Been lost an entire day plenty of times when I was 10, at 2 I'd have been wandering forever, no bearings
