I said don't buy, not don't adopt. Shelters don't make a profit from these cats, the fees cover their costs for shelter, vet care, spaying, etc. I don't see that as buying.
Agreed. Also those furless monstrosities. There are simple treatments for cat allergies, so don’t give me that bullshit about the need for that breed either. ⬇️
Sphinx cats don’t really have significantly more health issues than other breeds. They have their own unique set of issues, but it’s not really more than any other breed.
Yes they do. "Sphynx kittens are susceptible to respiratory issues and the breed is prone to conditions such as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy, Hereditary Myopathy and Sunburn."
Siamese are susceptible to Asthma, Eye issues, Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome, Megaesophagus, and Cancer. Maine Coons are susceptible to Hip Displacia, Obescity, Spine issues, Heart issues, and kidney issues. Himalayans are susceptible to Kidney disease, Eye issues, Hairballs, and Feline Hyperesthesia. ALL cat breeds have issues, just like all other animals. The question is whether they have issues severe enough to make their life more suffering than happiness. Sphinxes are no where near that.
So maybe don't get those either. The mutts are the healthiest ones, as always, and unlike dogs, there are no large differences in character between breeds to be much of an argument for getting them.
...I did, didn't I? Damn it. I have left similar comments on other posts like this and there's been a lot of answers to this one so I forgot which wording I used. Well, the sentiment is the same, as in, don't buy them from a breeder. Adoption fees tend to cover expenses like vaccinations and spaying/neutering, I don't see that as buying.
At this point I feel like it doesn't matter - promoting them by posting "cute" videos of them only further encourages people to want them. Maybe that's too harsh? But that's how it makes me feel when I see posts like that

So.... do I downvote upvote downvote munchkin cats?!?
Thesaya
Please don't buy munchkin cats. The short legs comes with several other genetic issues.

I hate people who intentionally deform animals because they "look cute"
Jpug
So these animals are to stay in cages and shelters for their lifespan?

They can't help having been born but there is no need for breeding any more of them
Thesaya
Some morons have bred munchkins and naked cats. Poor bastards

Don't breed munchkin cats* if there's already one at a shelter, go ahead.
Thesaya
Yes, that's why I said "breed" not "get".

Oh yes, I still downvote every post of them unless they clearly state that it is a rescue and not to get them. I also still hope it's a rescue though.

Rescue or no, downvote.
