Ive been buying the same pair of steel toes every two years. It now time for my fifth pair. I find out that this particular "model" is now new and improved, with most people saying the older style was way better. Though it might be blessing in disguise. Maybe Ill go all out and get myself a good pair of Red Wings. I know nobody cares. BUT THIS HURTS ME DEEP

FP Edit: Wow... I honestly thought this wouldnt get out of rising. Feels good to know that others feel the same way about their boots. Thanks for all the suggestions. Gonna have to set aside a whole day to find a good pair now.
To answer a few questions.
Typo in the title - Should read my boots. Wolverine still makes boots, just not the same pair.
1) I currently have a pair of Wolverines. Would love to get them resoled and keep using them, but water has gotten into them, and honestly, I dont think that smell is going to go away.
2) Going to try my luck in store, see if they have a few stragglers left since I couldnt find em online.
3) I work in a little bit of everything. From construction to auto repair. I just dont feel at ease without the steel toe and thick leather.

I guess this is the part where I can ask for stuff? Send Overwatch stuff.... or anything really, doesnt matter.

Stay safe Imgur, be good to each other, and take some time to slow down and smell the flowers. See you guys on the point.... or not.

Check out Thorogood boots from Weinbrenner. American made and a great company!

Chiappewas are a good boot to try

I vote for red wings. Never let me down. Always comfortable.

8 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Get dem red wings

8 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Dr. Martens ate pretty comfortable. I have a pair of Cats that I've never worn but got because the company paid for them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try thorogood man. I’m on my feet 12+ hours a day. Less expensive than red wings. More comfortable and no break in time

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My husband swears by his Thorogood composite toes. :D

Check out Matterhorn, redwings has been having quality control problems, most of their retailers in Utah have dropped redwings entirely

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Red wings are worth the money.

Gotta imagine this was a cost-cutting measure on the company's part, and "new and improved!" is just code for "We outsourced to Pakistan!"

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I absolutely love my redwings. They were worth every penny I paid for them.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

When you buy your third pair of something go ahead and by the 4th-8th as well

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Would you say this hurts you deep down in your sole? I'll see myself out.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

You can probably find a seller on Amazon who's selling the older model. Happens all the time!

8 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 0

Thats exactly what Im doing right now actually XD no luck yet though

8 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Gl if you're over size 12. It's a mixed bag for results

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try different, smaller stores. There's probably someone out there with the old model in stock. Maybe online but not necessarily on ebay.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Or Ebay?

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Zappos sometimes has back models.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Try the Canwest boots. Been a tradesmen for over 17 years and they are the lightest, most durable and Comfortable boots I've ever owned!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

TIL Red Wings are also boots!

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

DON"T GET RED WINGS! Try Thorogoods.

@op Check out timberland pros. They are amazing.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Hey yo the smell, use eucalyptus oil spray soak that shit and let it dry on a heater with baking soda in the shoes, lot of expierence here

5th pair in 2 years??? Serious crappy quality of boot, I got the same boots for 4 years and I wear them 5 times a week

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

no no no. I get a new pair every two years. been wearing the same "model" for 8 years now +/-

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Always buy 2, 3 pairs of the same shoes if they're awesome

8 years ago | Likes 75 Dislikes 0

Yeah but a good pair down here are over a 100$ my wife would kill me

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

Word of caution:If the soles are polyurethane and the boots are stored too long, you'll likely have the soles fall apart due to hydrolysis.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

Thats what i was planning to do this time. Knew the shoe was going to get replaced soon. they just beat me to it v.v

8 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 0

Try Ebay!

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Try online, see if any retailers still have some in stock. You know what size fits you for that model so you don’t need to buy in store.

8 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Used to work paving roads and would get $20 Wal-Mart boots every few months. Got a pair of red wings that lasted 5 years with no upkeep 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

Until my dad stole them after i quit working construction. I'll never by another brand again. They're a little pricey but well worth it 2/2

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

As my dad like to say, 'we can't afford to save money'. What you said is exactly what he meant.

8 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I think my dad has a 20 year old pair of Red Wings he wears motorcycling, the leather looks damn near new.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Red wings ftw. They're expensive but you get what you pay for.

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

RedWing, Chippewa, and Danner have all earned my respect. My Danners are no more than dirty after a few years in a machine shop.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not tried Chippewa or Danner, but I've not really needed steel toed boots for long, still new in this field.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Had a pair of Red Wings for my first construction job. Cost me $300. My back never felt as good as it did after a day of wearing those

8 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 0

300$? I usually pay around $180, $90 -110 if I get one of the old models.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

The ones I had laced almost halfway up my knees, plus all their boots have warrantee on them that offer super cheap repairs.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

$300 is about the going rate for most Red Wings at MSRP. That said, so many retailers offer Red Wings so there's no reason to pay MSRP.

8 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

As a Red Wing Shoe employee in Madison, Tn, $300 isn’t that crazy

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It really isn't. There's just no reason to pay full retail, especially if you're open to factory seconds.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Hmm where u at?

8 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

The internet. Which is where all the best deals are.

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

*eyeroll*......

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Not up here, also you can really get good deal if u hit the factory outlet days in Sep or Oct I think.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

reddit.com/r/frugalmalefashion. Domestic Domestic is having a sale right now, but mostly sold out already. Check regularly on (1)

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Sierra Trading Post for solid deals on factory seconds. Usually between $150 and $180. (2)

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Shit dude. I feel your pain. I’ve had this happen before on multiple thing. They release the “new and improved” version and it’s shit. 1/2

8 years ago | Likes 285 Dislikes 1

Pizza express did it with a take home, cook yourself pizza. Now it’s shite. Used to love that thin crust pizza.

Mizuno running shoes have done this to me. Feet feel like heaven than BAM! Fuck you and your arches.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Maybe the improvements we not to the product itself

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It’s bad for girls too. You finally find a foundation shade that’s perfect, or a lipstick - and boom, they change the brand.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

FTL just did that to my underwear. 2 sizes too small with same UPC. Since I'm playing the size game anyway, may as well switch brands.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

New and improved usually mean cheaper to make but sell at the same (or higher) price

8 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 0

Yeah, the improved part means they improved profits.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Exactly what I was gonna say.

FAKE NEEEWWWS!!

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

But as someone whose only ever worn red wings, those things will take you to hell & back. And when you get back, they’ll repair them for you

8 years ago | Likes 142 Dislikes 0

I remember my dad always wearing them everywhere when I was a kid. Even to the beach. He said they were most comfortable boots ever.

8 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mine have taken me to the Middle East and back a few times and survived four different ships, never buying any other brand

8 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

which is exactly why I want a pair. Theyre pricey, but damn worth the investment.

8 years ago | Likes 66 Dislikes 0

Best money you’ll ever spend. My pair survived all kinds of craziness, got em resoled and good as New while still broken in. So comfy!

And that's why 400 bucks for a pair of boots is acceptable. My current hiking boots are going on 8 years, without a resole, 8 grand canyon1/
