Probably makes more than the teacher does anyway, teachers are really underpaid

School janitors must have the easiest job these days with everyone at home. All they gotta do is round up some weeds.

but the janitor may be a former mafia hitman who just might stab you in the eye with a soldering iron.

Janitors have no student loans to pay back either.

if you don't get good marks it will limit your career choices later - that's all

The custodial job I had was still one of my best paying jobs

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

My school janitor was the best! We called him the cookie monster because he would always try and steal any kids cookies. We all loved him!

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The janitor also works much harder than the teacher. It's not always about the pay.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Never said this to any class of mine. I just told my students that if they kept making messes they'd get to work with the janitor that day.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd be a janitor anyday

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The janitor probably makes more money than the teacher.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Job shaming shouldn't be acceptable.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It used to be less of a threat than it is now. Privatizing the custodial staff knocked their wages down by a third and killed benefits.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

They are the eyes and ears of the institution....

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Former janitor here. Can confirm everyone talks shit.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Teachers respect the custodians, because they're the ones that have to clean up the puke. So much puke...

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I never heard a teacher, or anyone say this. Only place I see this is on Imgur

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'm a teacher and I literally leave them thank you sticky notes every week. Teachers support students being functioning members of society.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I hide a candy bag that only our custodian knows about so he can always have a sweet treat

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Janitor: "I make seventy grand a year and have a full complement of benefits. Fuck you, Ms. Watts!"

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But is his job unionized?

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

My friend was the janitor at our University. He has no student debt but he has a bachelors in criminology, communications, 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 as a staff member of the University he only had to pay for books The rest was paid by the school

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

No teacher says this. We love the janitors. Piss off.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

It's always been my parents. Which I thought was dumb, because at least the janitors consistently have a job. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like that in Japan the grade schools don't have janitors. The cleanliness of the school is the responsibility of the students.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I made a student write an apology letter to our janitorial staff at the school for saying this to another kid.

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

My uncle was a school janitor. Retired with pension. Asked back twice. Made the same as teachers hired the same time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

As someone who has worked both jobs, when i was a custodian, i only had one teacher ever treat me like that.

5 years ago | Likes 134 Dislikes 0

I had quite a few but the region in particular has an issue with classism so probably regionally relevant.

5 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I make sure all custodians know i appreciate them

5 years ago | Likes 57 Dislikes 0

Maaah!.. Maaaaaah! The special ED teacher told me im doing a good job mah!

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Seems to me that you always want to treat someone who has access to your stuff with respect.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Not just access YOUR stuff, but the library, locked supply cabinets, storage for excess materials... The custodian is a good friend to have.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Former maintenance guy: the good ones won't mess with your shit, but we will never EVER make an asshole's life any easier. Ever.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

yeah, but the janitor doesnt have to deal with entitled kids and shitty parents, and lets not forget the school board with "great" its ideas

5 years ago | Likes 330 Dislikes 1

Oh they have to deal with the entitled kids clogging toilets and doing stupid pranks..

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

One of my buddies quit being head custodian at a middle school because exactly that. Kids shit on you just like they do the teachers.

5 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

My buddy and I always took the cleaning job after school. The janitor was a retired fireman and we got to go anywhere in the school.

5 years ago | Likes 31 Dislikes 0

It was the coolest. Usually took longer than the other jobs and we probably made his life more difficult. Lol but we loved shadowing him.

5 years ago | Likes 18 Dislikes 0

Prolly gets paid more per hour of work at this point.

5 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Janitors make decent money. And supposedly their benefits package is better too.

5 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

Not always a lot of schools have gotten rid of their in house janitorial staff and hire outside contractors who do all the same work

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

But get paid less and get no benefits.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I tell my son if he doesnt work hard he wont be able to buy pokemon cards and that generally works.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

For me it was Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games/toys, but same principle. It works! Take away what the kid wants, not the same every kid.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

...in America. Not everywhere. Which makes no sense to me at all.

5 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Nothing in America is allowed to make sense.

5 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Well yeah. In the US y'all can't decide on whether to do universal healthcare either. And even the 13th ammendment leaves a loophole for

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

slavery. There is still a legally protected form of slavery in the US.

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Dude, we can't even decide if people deserve basic human rights. Everything has become political, even drinking a soda.

How much do school janitors make?

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

About $28000

5 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

This meme is so much bullshit I wish people would stop sharing it

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Factoring in how they don't usually have to buy their own cleaning supplies in sure they break even at least most of the time.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Especially if they can do more than clean, like repairing basic stuff can get you decent hikes in pay.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

A couple buddies of mine worked as custodians for a while. Pretty decent money and a good job to get on your feet

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember one of my high school ones sold us weed. It was great.

5 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 0

& that's the only way they make more money than teachers

5 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

The ones where I work start around 41.9k and cap out around 72.7k a year. For comparison, a Teacher with a Bachelor's Degree in the 1/2

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

same District starts at 48k and cap out at 95.7k after 28 years. We actually have really good Unions here.

5 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

where I am from all public school janitors are part of a nation wide public workers union: they get approx 20$/h to start and full benefits.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

but I don't know what their actual hours are like ; I also work for the public schools and my job is just part time but I get around 23$/h

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I was looking at jobs just the other day where I live and that seems about right. School's out here seem to pay well...ish.

5 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Depends on what you are doing.
