Two friends are getting married tomorrow. He "wasn't allowed" a Pokemon wedding cake, so I thought I'd have a go at making one as a surprise. Never made a cake like this before, what do you guys think?

I don't really have anything bad to say about this, I can't come close to something like that!

I'm gonna need an update on how this goes down at the wedding! Hopefully well as its very thoughtful and funny.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well he'll probably be able to tell what it is, but I also wouldn't try selling your cakes yet.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

OP is nice, be my friend too so you can make me Charmander cakes c:

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It ain't Food Network ready, but it's a damn sight better than anything I could ever make....

DON'T LISTEN TO THEM IT'A AN AWESOME CAKE!!!!!! IT LOOKS AWESOME!!! I WANT ONE TOO!!!! Especially because I'm a huge squirtle fan!!!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For a 1st cake that's awesome. My fiancé is gonna have a homer simpson cake at our wedding. I will not deny him what he wants!!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wow thats much better than i could do. Good job. Im sure he will love it

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Fondant would look smoother, but shapeing is great and colors are good! Looks like a great gift!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Yes, but this one has an important advantage over fondant. It's actually edible and doesn't taste like utter crap.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's gonna love it! A group of friends did it for another of our friends weddings - they made a full on Starcraft cake - it was delicious!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'd say well done! Could probably use some smoothing and a little more sculpting with the frosting. Still an awesome idea!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It looks like squirtle got um "squirted" on his sunglasses.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

+1 because emotions matter more than looks (you're a good friend op)

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I'll be honest here I'm not too optimistic about that marriage. Cake's great though.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 5

It's the love that went into it. And I mean that sincerely.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Squirtle Squad!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Why does imgur not know about groom's casks. They exist for this reason, fun. Keep the main event timeless, use the rehearsal for fun.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

For a first try on a character cake looks great! Alwayas room for improvement of course, but I;d eat it!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Well shit, front page. I hope he's not on imgur since you guys might have ruined the suprise...

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

This is why you wait until AFTER you give it to the person to post about an awesome surprise gift.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, please tell me you aren't just going to pop that out at the wedding itself. At least ask the bride if it's okay first, if you are.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

*surprise. Urgh

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

It looks fucking delicious. That's proper icing, not that fondant shit. I would stuff my face. Well done @OP!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If he's not allowed a cake that he wants at his own wedding...that is sad.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Awwww! :) It's cute! It's the thought that counts & the effort that went into making it! I think they will love it!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

first time baking a cake?

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 2

Ahh re read title. But still good job

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Nah man, I bake quite regularly. Just never gone for the whole, attempted sculpture masterpiece type thing. Maybe a step too soon for me!

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 0

Your frosting coloring is almost perfect, and as someone who knows how frustrating it can be big +1 from me!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

At least you started. Now you know what you did wrong and what you did right and you can work from there :)

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Nah, it looks awesome!

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Wasn't allowed? I wonder how long that marriage will last.

9 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 12

My husband and I both love video games but I still didn't allow him to choose a video game themed wedding cake. We're still married.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

Just a joke. Stay calm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

I mean if she has no interest in pokemon it's be pretty shitty for him to insist on a pokemon cake, it's supposed to be about both of them

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 2

Just a joke. Stay calm.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

groom's cakes are a thing, but it might be a cost issue. In that case, it might be a good thing he made this.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Wedding cake or grooms cake?

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was made with love, he'll appreciate it. It looks like crap though. Good job on being a good friend.

9 years ago | Likes 1095 Dislikes 22

I dunno, I seen way worse on pintrest. I can tell what it is, and homemade buttercream (Or canned) is a bitch and a half to work with. GJ!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I laughed at "looks like crap". Imgur should have a warning label for people with low self esteem. +1 for brutal honesty.

9 years ago | Likes 62 Dislikes 3

Not saying op has low self esteem. Just observing the honesty of imgur.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

OP has high self esteem posting that crap on here. Nah for real I'd be happy if a friend made that for me, it's cool.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Good god this is funny

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

We were all thinking it lol but yeah A for effort

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I like your compliment sandwich.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Exactly what I was going for, thanks.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks pretty good for an amateur. I'd be touched if someone did this for me, @OP.

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Hey, congrats on making top comment!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Thanks blasto.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Looks way better than what I could have done.

9 years ago | Likes 23 Dislikes 0

Same. Mine would look like a blue turd with smudges of other colors. Like a smurf after being eaten and shat out.

Can't say that I have.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Haha, yep. Entirely buttercream though, I could have used fondant icing to make it neater but then it wouldn't taste as good!

9 years ago | Likes 364 Dislikes 1

Molding chocolate

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So much advice lol As a professional, I just wanted to say you did great especially for just buttercream and your first try +1

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

If you want better fondant, you can have a go with melting marshmallows down together into the same consistency but with much better taste!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Taste over aesthetics. You've got the right priorities

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

Wait until buttercream dries slightly. Take small spatula, dip in water, use to smooth out piping and rough edges.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

so true! I think it looks cute though can at least tell that it's squirttle :P

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 0

I've seen worse. Well done

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

good thinking, you da real mvp

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looks like a real cake not a sculpture that's "technically" edible. Exactly what I would want!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dude it's a bit crappy but that is well on the good end of crappy XD

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Marshmallow fondant tastes really good and is easy to make

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Try smoothing the frosting a bit (but not the shell!), other than the patchy icing it's great.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

next time add a little more powdered sugar

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

I don't think it looks like crap. Like you can easily tell what it is. It's just hard to make something smooth and neat with buttercream.

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Fondant is such a sacrifice of flavour for appearance, good choice OP

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Buttercream with real butter? That looks delicious

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It looks awesome. It looks like it was homemade because it was. It's great.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It looks like a real cake not a sculpture that's "technically" edible. Exactly what I would want!

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Fuck that it looks great. Fondant isn't worth having a cake to just look at good work

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Flavor is better than looks Op, good choice. But I think it still looks good

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Some smoothing of the frosting on the limbs and head would have done wonders for its appearance. For a first time though you did quite well.

9 years ago | Likes 29 Dislikes 1

I originally piped it on, then tried to smooth it out. As soon as I got going it got very clingy to the utensil and I just stopped trying.

9 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 0

Optionally, you could have made an artistic choice and left the piping as is with a decorative tip. My mom does that a lot with star tips!

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Dipping the utensil in water before you smooth helps a lot

9 years ago | Likes 19 Dislikes 0

Or chilling the cake can help too!

9 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

buttercream on the cake under the fondant so it can be taken off. Additionally, marshmallow fondant is delicious. 2

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You can't pull off the cake directly, you have to slide, sort of how you spread peanut butter. Also, most people put on a thick layer of 1

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It doesn't look THAT bad. It's a high-quality turd. Well-formed. Like rabbit dung.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Are you bringing this to the wedding unannounced? Cause the bride may lose her shit.

9 years ago | Likes 212 Dislikes 4

I highly recommend cluing the bride in on the surprise if she doesn't know.... Just a cover your ass tactic. It is a really sweet gesture!!

9 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 1

The cake is a sweet gesture. I'm sure the groom will love it!

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 0

Not a question on if the groom will like it. It's the bride OP needs to check with, especially if it is a more formal wedding than casual.

9 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

Could just use it as a wedding gift or a bachelor party cake lol

9 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Thought the same thing. This screams "WHY AREN'T YOU MARRYING *ME* INSTEAD"

9 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 0

Was looking for a comment like this!!

You obviously havent watched enough Disney movies.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

At least for me it would have been a matter of how much I put into desserts - I did them myself- and the risk of allergies to my nephews

9 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

a lot of people are perfectionists, wedding is the biggest day of your life (except having kids) and they just want it to be perfect -

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

according to the vision they have in their heads. ideally you marry a guy who has mostly the same vision, or who doesn't mind either way

9 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

A lot of women have been raised to think their wedding day is the most important day of their entire lives. They get to be a princess! etc.

9 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

None of the women in my family have been like that for their weddings but a lot of the friends have.

9 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Truth.

9 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Dude you don't bring a cake to someone else's wedding unless asked... Why is that so difficult??

9 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 5

If it as about BOTH she should have veto rights, as should he. Just because she vetoed a cake doesn't make her "fucking prissy"

9 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 4

Well it's a gift for the groom and it's a cake for him not the wedding

9 years ago | Likes 32 Dislikes 10

The question is if OP is bringing it to the actual wedding where the bride didn't want it in the 1st place or just to groom's home.

9 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

So...you're not married, huh?

9 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 5

groom's cakes are definitely a thing.
