Welcome to Spring 2016!

2-3 episodes in and looking good already. Of course these shows can always crash and burn despite promising start, but let's see how it looks so far!

Captions by lukeatlook, the (flow)chart guy. If you're new here and/or need more charts with finished anime, check out these: http://imgur.com/a/UYySK

Boku no Hero Academia

A rare occurrence of American-styled superheroes in anime. The closest thing to One Punch Man we have. Not only is the source material a smash hit, the studio adapting it (BONES - known from FMA and Noragami) seems to be doing a really great job at it.

Basically anime X-Men: Evolution. I've read the manga and trust me, it only gets better with time. And they're going to make some breaks, so there shouldn't be any fillers. Great character progression and a broad, likeable cast.

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri (Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress)

Attack on Titan, except potentially bettter.

I think all you need to get hooked is "Steampunk zombie apocalypse".

Koutetsujou no Kabaneri (2)

The art style of Kabaneri reminds me of all the good '80s-'90s classics. A little bit inconsistent between scenes at times, but makes a really good impression.

I mean, even if this nearly literal hype train turns into a trainwreck, at least it's going to look epic. But the characters seem way less bland than in AoT... so far.

Re:Zero kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu (Life in a Different World from Zero)

Your usual "trapped in a fantasy world" cliche... except LOLNOPE, this isn't a regular wish-fullfillment show, nah. Sure it has a harem cast structure, but so does Steins;Gate.

Re:Zero is a cross between Konosuba, Grimgar, Erased, and Steins;Gate. Or Edge of Tomorrow (All You Need Is Kill). It's definitely worth a shot if you like fantasy, and ESPECIALLY if your'e tired of the cliche types of fantasy.

You know that type of anime where the main character is ridiculously overpowered and wins every fight he needs to win? This isn't this kind of anime. In fact, just to make it clear, the MC of this show makes friends with the Gary Stu trope guy who just can't lose a fight. MC himself, now, that's another story entirely.

If you didn't get any of the movie/anime references, we're talking about time loop here. The MC fails miserably and dies. Multiple times. Trying to repeat it until he gets out alive is one thing - but there's also people he begins to care about...

Re:Zero (2)

It's not a battle shounen, but when action breaks out, it's really impressive. And they don't stop to talk during fights.

It's hard to categorize this show, since it's neither drama nor thriller, so let's just call it "fantasy adventure with a twist".

Warning: First episode has two parts, A and B, sometimes labeled as episodes 0 and 1. You can't skip the first part.

Kiznaiver

Studio Trigger is at it again! This time they've paired with Mari Okada (Toradora, True Tears, Zetsuen no Tempest, Ano Hana, WIXOSS), so you can expect... well, Heaven or Hell. It will go either spectacular or spectacularly wrong meldorama.

Kiznaiver (2)

The premise is odd but simple: a group of random teenagers gets connected by their wounds, sharing all pain one of them would endure between the group.

Seems like an artsy edgy Trigger version of Kokoro Connect (forced drama: the anime). Should be fun.

Kiznaiver (3)

I mean, it can go either way, but at least the OP is baller. Really neat song, sounds very much like a-ha's Take On Me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzd-T0pceEY

If you're not sure if you have time for this one, wait a few episodes and check the reviews by then.

Joker Game

Some really solid seinen. This is a spy thriller within a military, late '30s setting. Definitely a rare treat.

Bungou Stray Dogs

Urban fantasy like Yozakura Quartet with mystery added in (detective agency). If that rings your bell, hop in.

I mean, if this season wasn't so PACKED already, this would be an okay-ish popular show.

Mayoiga (The Lost Village)

30 annoying kids/young adults get on a bus to a mysterious hidden village. Judging by the posters, we're in for some cast cuts.

Hunger Games? Lord of the Flies? We're yet to see.

Flying Witch

If you need some comfy slice of life, here it is. It's slow, but nice. Looks good, feels good. A teenage witch moves to her distant family and does her witch stuff. Commence comfiness.

Flying Witch (2)

This is one of the shows that is yet to develop its characters (I mean, even slice of life needs some script), but the MC is pretty damn likeable.

Kuma Miko

Pedobear the anime. There are some jokes that might make people uncomfortable, but overall a very funny SoL/comedy show. The pedobear part is mostly a joke dosed in lesser amount than you'd expect, but still more than some could stomach.

Kuma Miko (2)

It's a story of a country girl (shrine maiden to a talking bear) who wants to live in a big city, but has no clue how. Hilarity ensues.

Also hands down the best ED of the season: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmhJu6m04Hk (though it's way better with subs)

Tanaka-kun wa Itsumo Kedaruge (Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless)

SoL comedy about a guy who took laziness to another level. Way less edgy or artsy than Oregairu or Hyuoka, and made for the broader audience. Nice and comfy. Some commendable bromance.

Sakamoto desu ga?

Basically the SoL equivalent of One Punch Man. Guy who is so absurdly cool it's ridiculous. Based DEEN keeps redeeming themselves.

From the director who made Daily Lives of High School Boys.

THERE'S ALSO A NEW SEASON OF JOJO

And a prequel to Magi, Sindbad no Bokuen. Also Macross Delta and Gundam Thunderbolt.

I kept this album mostly about new stuff.

Spring 2016 seasonal anime

Presentation and personal assessment of the new anime from Spring 2016. It can lose accuracy with time as every show can get worse later on (remember Charlotte? or Erased?), but this is how it looks so far.

10 years ago | Likes 22 Dislikes 1

humor in that is great

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Erased was bad? One of the best I've watched - great music, good pacing, character development... Murder was predictable, but that's it.

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 1

I just think it dropped in quality torwards the latter half, still good but i'm mad at it due to amazing the first few episodes was.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The manga is much much better.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Everyone who hated it was most likely due to a certain ship sinking. Everything else was pretty well regarded

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

the downvote plus the lack of proper answer for said downvote leads me to believe you're right, even if I haven't watched that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Imo, I liked it, but the ending time skip and everything after it felt very rushed to get the manga and anime to end at the same time

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

So far Kiznaiver is an extreme group therapy session using a sci-fi forced-empathy device and freaky mascots. I'm quite enjoying it.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Only up voted for Jojo

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 3

Just watched Sakamoto, it's beautiful

10 years ago | Likes 38 Dislikes 3

Beautifuler

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

He's the epitome of poise and swag all rolled into one.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

They call him... Swagamoto

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

I couldn't stop laughing. It's so ridiculous, but amazing.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Me too. It was...Beautiful.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Just waiting on the damn second episode, as it won't be airing till 26th... Stupid earthquake last week.

JOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOJO!

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 1

Going to double recommend Re:zero here. I've heard people who read the light novels. It's going to be gut wretchingly amazing.

10 years ago | Likes 92 Dislikes 10

Its literally is gut wretching, like seriously the MC gets cut the fuck up.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Except two eps in and the main character couldn't be any more generic, the visuals are wildly inconsistent and the dialogue is a slog.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

I'm guessing this is like saying GoT season 4 episode 8 was mind blowing.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Watched the episodes so far and it's fracking awesome. Also nice pun.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

WAS THAT A FUCKING PUN

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I'm pretty sure he's bowely serious.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I like the blend of the 'trapped in another world' trope with Groundhog Day time loops. Makes a usually predictable set-up unpredictable.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Dude it's fantasy Stein's Gate

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's more like Edge of Tomorrow than Groundhog Day. It resets on death, rather than time.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Well, we don't really know that from just the anime I think. He manages to get himself killed pretty regularly.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's pretty clear from the first episode that death is the trigger.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

No, it's not clear at all. He never manages to survive an entire day. The main character proclaims it's death, but he isn't reliable.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

yeah but it could ALSO reset after a certain amount of time, that said the answer could probably be found in the light novels

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In that sense, the story thus far resembles groundhog day far more, where it's about growing as a person.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Also, edge of tomorrow is a situation where death is inevitable. He doesn't have the option to ignore it and move on.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You better not disappoint @OP. I will watch...and I will return

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 5

Boku No Hero Academia is the most fun I've had watching anime since me and my two friends sat around voicing every character ourselves 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

In the very early seasons of Bleach and Naruto.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I just got done watching Ajin on Netflix. I definitely think everyone should give it a watch. Kind of slow in spots but still badass.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

It's just that animation throws me off.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

My bf said the same thing. He got used to it the longer we watched.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no phoenix wright?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Not everyone appreciates these, but you are the hero usersub needs.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

Fun fact: BONES Studio is also responsible for Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Space Dandy and Sword of the Stranger

10 years ago | Likes 34 Dislikes 6

kekkai sensen was a pretty good anime from BONES aswell ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Yeah, it's underrated.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

*You're thinking of Shinichiro Watanabe, director of the aforementioned shows; doesn't always work with BONES. He also did Zankyou no Terror

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

...with Studio MAPPA, a spiritual successor of Madhouse.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

BONES also did Eureka Seven, which is superb.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

I was wondering if I was going to have to point this out. Eureka Seven... is gold.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

BONES also did the 2003 Full Metal Alchemist and Wolf's Rain. Everything they do is solid, Sword of the Stranger in particular was a (1)

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

fucking masterpiece, and I highly recommend anybody reading these/my comments to go watch it. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

And Soul Eater?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It's spring, you know what that means. Everybody's having sex except you! Even the plants and fruits and vegetables!

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 2

It's hard to find someone you care enough about to sit down and listen to their boring problems and make babies!

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

dude, I've been depressed for the past days about being solo. Then had a flight with like 10 babis that cried the whole way. 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

2/2 and that was after a 2 hour sleep for the night to not miss my plane. I am now no longer sad...at least for a good while.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

there's so many great series this season.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 2

New season of Jojo is already great.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

MACROSS DELTA

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 3

Steins Gate never gave off a harem structure

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

one guy, all girls, except that one pervy guy friend of the MC - yeah it's a harem cast structrue alright

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 5

Two and a half females . One female who played off him well and was clearly the love interest, a friend, and someone he dated out of pity.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Not something id call a harem, but a cast of characters

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It has a pretty transparent harem structure. Its quality is just so high its hard to notice. Rewatch the episode with Faris and her Dmail.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I didn't realize till my second viewing I was so engrossed in the story and the great writing.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

If you are a shounen fan, fucking read Boku no Hero Academia. That manga is like the best parts of Naruto, One Piece, and Dragon Ball in one

10 years ago | Likes 60 Dislikes 5

super enticing tbh and it reminds me so much of the old naruto and dbz

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The only shounen I need is Boku no Pico

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

actually there is no good parts of one piece

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

really liked Midoriya's battle with Muscular especially chapter 76

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

#1

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Boku no Hero Academia, where the author used the tropes in the right way and right amount. Predictable most of the time but still deliver

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Honestly, Boku no Hero Academia has some of the BEST characters and character development/personalities I've ever seen, really connects w/ u

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 1

I also just feel that the story progression is so good. If we have down time it's maybe two chapters while they set up, then action again.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Really loving Academia, but it's no One Piece

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

I completely agree. One Piece's world-building and storytelling are hard to beat. BnHA does some things better, but I stand by OP overall.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It also has retcons out the wazoo and I hate that.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

One Piece does? Example?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Mr 3 floats in water, Bleuno's character, Haki, Red Hair being weak as shit in the beginning, Luffy's origins, etc.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love One Piece for what it is, and that is a bunch of quirky characters with stupid powers I love. Boku is doing that, except with 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

properly timed story arcs. None of them last too overly long unless they need to. There isn't 18 chapters of Luffy and co. talking about 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 0

literally nothing before finally deciding to head out towards the next destination.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 0

Zou was a much needed chill hour after what Dressrosa dragged into, and we got some IMMENSE world building at the same time.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

TBH, I'm never going to go through the backlog required to get into One Piece. Academia is easier to hop on.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

This. One Piece doesn't know when to end.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

That's fine though since unlike the other two big Shonen of the 2000's it has yet to shit the bed in a major way. 19 years later, still good

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

What are the other two? Naruto and Bleach?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

We have HxH already.

10 years ago | Likes 20 Dislikes 4

is it off hiatus?

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Oh he beat the new Dragon Quest? ...well new at the time I guess.finally it can continue

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

After his longest hiatus yet, 80 issues straight (breaking the previous record of 79), Togashi released a chapter no one can follow 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Since it has been a year and a half since the last fucking chapter.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 0

I might be silly for saying this, but HxH has SO much text in it that it just gets overwhelming having 50% of the page as text bubbles

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I love it. The illustrations are top notch, but really when I get a new issue of a manga I enjoy, I want as much content/plot as possible.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Togashi is back! :D

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

But, for how long? c:

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If he doesn't suddenly disappear again TT_TT

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

10 years ago | Likes 232 Dislikes 31

to be fair, that's the same reaction I make to most posts.

10 years ago | Likes 58 Dislikes 4

I watch anime and this was my reaction to half of this post.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 0

Half? Prob more like 70%

10 years ago | Likes 21 Dislikes 7

I have no understanding of what all of these words around me mean. Just smile and nod boys, smile and nod

10 years ago | Likes 16 Dislikes 3

I am a huge anime fan, but OP used a lot of acronyms I have no clue about, made it hard to read this

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 1

Did MC, OP, or ED get you?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Main Character, Opening, Ending.

9 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is...is the last one erectile dysfunction?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

How'd you know?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know why, but the 9 year old screaming "SEXUAL HARRASMENT!" in _English_ in Kuma Miko slayed me. Why English, out in the boonies?

10 years ago | Likes 13 Dislikes 3

Thinking about the story was so lewd she developed new language skills to show how offended she was.

I liked the first half of Charlotte but then everything was rushed and the ending seemed forced

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 2

Charlotte had a great concept, one of the best I've seen in a while. And 0 understanding of pace The last 4 episodes could have been seasons

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Charlotte was amazing, Charlotte made me feel like there was like 4 full arcs in 13 episodes

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

I loved it too, then episode 2 happened and I've realized Jun Maeda is going to run yet another promising show to the ground

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 6

I dnt think Jun is the one at fault but rather the studio not knowing how to correctly adapt an anime. Let's hope they dn't ruin rewrite too

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

who's jun maeda?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

It was a great show beginning to end IMO.

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 5

They should have made 3 more episodes than cramming the entire ending. That was the nail in the coffin for my time.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

It was teenage Code Geass and then turned into a bunch of insanity about half way through.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

But the insanity was what made it good, it was rather forgettable until that point. Honestly I was very close to dropping it entirely

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Code Geass was full of teenagers too...

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

To each their own. I enjoyed it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The end was prettttty bad.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I quite enjoyed it. The idea of it was fairly novel. The only thing I wanted different was him to have remembered her. Fine otherwise.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I like anime but don't watch all of the anime so describing an anime via other anime is so unhelpful.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 3

This is a good point. Try checking the genre's of the shows to see what might interest you. On that point, anime has its own genres as well

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

If you like superheroes and underdogs winning, watch Boku no Hero. If you like Gritty Steampunk Fantasy, watch Iron Fortress 1/?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

If you like muscular men not really fighting, written by a literal fairy, watch Jojo's. If you like watching other people live life, 2/3

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Anything else on this list will work for you 3/3

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Thank you :)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

More Jojo is always a godsend. And Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress is also a rare treat, with surprisingly solid opening episodes.

10 years ago | Likes 165 Dislikes 12

Kabeneri is really good so far but I couldn't help but see AoT with zombies all over it

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Solid bunch of recommendations, all round.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

The ending credits song for the new season is fucking Savage Garden's "I Want You". It was so bizarre, yet so fitting.

10 years ago | Likes 24 Dislikes 1

Are there any sources without the chinese sub? Thanks!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Is the third jojo any good (the one with like summoned ghosts)? Liked the first two a lot but the plot of the third just seemed so stupid.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 4

Stands were meant to be kind of a greater manifestation of Hamon (one of their original names was "Ghostly Ripple"). Part 3 admittedly (1)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

falls into a really bad "monster of the week" pattern, but stays interesting enough to keep watching. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Stands, as the other commenter has explained, allow for a lot more variety in fights and story than Hamon ever did.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

They are called stands. And they are much more interesting than vampires and hamon. I like part 3 and 4 more than 1 and 2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And Ace Attorney! Why didn't they include Ace Attorney?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Because it is super niche.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Also super terrible.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Episode 1 was. They didn't do it right, but episode 2 was good. I haven't seen 3, but I'm hoping they get it right. It could be interesting.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Episode one killed all interest I had in the show, but I'll give it another shot then.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ok. Am I watching the right Jojo ?? Or is it just a really slow start?

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Depends, what part?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I just started watching it. And I don't know what part exactly. I saw two first episodes. One where the mom died but the baby survived>

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

And the other where "jojo" is in prison and his grandfather comes to get him out. :/

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thats part 3. Jotaro is in prison, and his grandfather is Joseph

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Okay so the very first part. The first episode is kinda slow. It introduces the characters and addresses the drama. The action is coming

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

Ok. I was told it gets funny? What should I be expecting?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Thing is, Part 4 isn't going to be your usual Jojo, rather its less like the epic journey to an end goal that you've probably become used to

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 1

One REALLY important thing about Re: Zero is that it has a 0th episode. watch it or shit will get confusing.

10 years ago | Likes 554 Dislikes 13

Well it has episode 1, parts A and B.

10 years ago | Likes 105 Dislikes 3

Hi

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Havn't seen it yet but I would guess they go away from the manga story as it's only 11 chapters yet. And not the most fast moving one

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

it doesn't have an episode "0" unless you're stealing it :<

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You and I both know sometimes people just do that stuff and I'd rather have them enjoy the show. Hell, maybe it'll cause em to start paying.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Good ti know

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Kind of like Death Parade?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Death Parade had one episode and wasn't planned to carry on, this isjust like a longer episode probably to get you hooked

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Afraid I don't know exactly what you're talking about, but it's pretty much a regular episode. 1 continues from a semi-cliffhanger in 0.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I can't begin to tell you how weird "0th" is to pronounce!

10 years ago | Likes 52 Dislikes 2

zee roath. but roath kindof sounds like throat. like i there was a half silent T before the TH. zee-roa(t)th.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

All sound fine to me except for zerord

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

Now try pronouncing 'Guilty Gear Xrd'.

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 1

I enjoy anime— honestly, I do!— but the too similar art, and ridiculously long/bizarre titles IRL me something fierce!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

For a bigger challenge, try 'Guilty Gear XX Accent Core Plus R', which fans abbreviate to 'GGXXAC+R'. :) I think ArcSys went too far.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I remember jokingly calling it Zerd when it was announced. Then I learned that's actually how it's pronounced.

I skipped episode 0 and actually kind of liked learning things as I went along. You'll understand everything by the end of episode 2.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 1

I understand where you're coming from, having watched 1 first and still really liking the dynamic, but you'll miss a lot of characterisation

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

Ya I'll watch it soon ish, I actually just really liked not knowing what was going on for like 1 episode. Unique compared to other (1/2)

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

shows where its always "ohno, its a new world! what is, going on! this isnt, kansas any more!!" etc etc

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

Maybe that's why they made the episode titles so confusing, to draw people in. A cunning plan indeed, White Fox.

10 years ago | Likes 164 Dislikes 35

Yes

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Compared to Kabaneri? Yes

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

It's cooler than it is objectively well done, read the manga and save yourself some time.

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 3

I'd like to answer that question but I need to stand around and think about it for two episodes first.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Ikr..

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 11

Nah though don't waste time on the show, read the manga there is much more of it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it could use some polishing in the character development, but the world and the story are neat. People just jumped on the bandwagon (1)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

of hating it like literally every other anime that becomes popular, except in this case an actually decent anime got the attention. (2)

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

I liked it but had to stop. I was starting to stress way too much and get chest pains.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 3

Yes

10 years ago | Likes 15 Dislikes 15

terrible pacing issue, like, 2 good characters, and shit writing. so yea; bad

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 5

The first thirteen episodes were gruelingly dull rehashes but then things get good. They squandered time needed to develop people.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That being said I'm really fucking glad I waited through the boredom and stuck with it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

no, it was probably the best thing japanese animation produced in the last 10 years or so. Leave it to the weebs to shit on something great

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 8

I think it was a bit overhyped. I watched a couple episodes, went "meh" and didn't look back.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Anything besides JoJo's and LotGH is SHIT

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

Yes? That show is garbage.

10 years ago | Likes 33 Dislikes 23

You didn't even believe yourself as you typed that out. That's a new level of sad

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 6

Watch Tokyo ghoul

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 19

Why would you watch that garbage when the manga was so much better? The show ruined it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

Watch it, then read the manga. If you read Tokyo Ghoul first it'll just ruin the anime for you, because it surpasses it.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

The setting was original and a lot of the elements of the show work really well, but the pace and wooden characters do a lot of damage.

10 years ago | Likes 9 Dislikes 0

that's my exact opinion on it as well. If we got some development for characters other than Hanji and Levi, it would be a lot better.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I mean they could at least give something more to the main characters. Armin kind of has an arc, but it's not coming together well.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Like AoT, did not like Eren. He was the worst thing about the show for me. He spends almost as much time as Goku yelling, but with 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

/2 less cool things that he accomplishes. Until like the last episodes.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It's a cool concept, but it's still basically a bland slice-of-life harem anime half the time.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 4

comments like this are how I know most of the haters are just making shit up at this point. none of those even apply to AoT.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I liked it. "Steampunk zombie apocalypse" sounds like a nightmare to me though, honestly. Like some exec is trying to appeal to nerdy teens.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

Let's pan a matte painting while we have a lengthy discussion about this and then fight each other before cutting to the aftermath.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

The fandom is bad and when a fandom for a show is bad, the show itself is bad. Because for some reason people watch shows for the fandom.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 13

Yeah it's pretty bad. Humans lose in literally every scenario. When you know the plot always resolves in a loss, it makes it pretty boring

10 years ago | Likes 12 Dislikes 7

It had a great start, but the quality went down from there. By the last arc of the first season, it was almost hilariously cringe-worthy.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I loved attack on titan. Constantly on my seat while watching it.

The batman v superman of manga?

10 years ago | Likes 6 Dislikes 14

Given the reviews that Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice got, either you don't know what "overrated" means, or you REALLY hated that movie

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 1

I liked the movie for what it was, but it was definitely over hyped and overrated.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

28% on Rottentomatoes... So it's the first thing then?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

You're not a smart man are you?

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Nope, it was fine. People just love to hate it.

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 2

ascribing critique to irrational hatred is one of the most productive things out there, isn't it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

It's so popular that the haters are numerous despite being a small %. Great action, story, & setting, but mediocre character development.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

it's not getting a season 2? I really liked it

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

It should be coming out this year iirc

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

i kinda doubt theres enough content for another full season. maybe this winter or early 17

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Apparently it was delayed to 2017, at this point i doubt they're ever gonna make it.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

It is already done being made. They made a deal with the manga creator so that anime will stay behind the manga by a certain amount.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

Interesting to know, although this is like the third time its been delayed which is really unfortunate to those who wanna see it.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Where did you read that it's done being made?

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Most of the complaints are the typical "I read the manga and they changed this small thing therefore it's shit."

10 years ago | Likes 17 Dislikes 11

eh main complaint my friends ( and myself) made was "11/10 up until joining scout corps, then it became like a 6/10 for a lot of episodes."

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 2

The manga is even worse LOL The artist is absolute fucking garbage, and don't even pretend it's "stylized"

10 years ago | Likes 5 Dislikes 4

Pre anime manga was great. Post anime quality went downhill. He cashed in and is just riding it out. No substance anymore

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

The anime did have some pacing problems. A couple episodes were mostly padding to get the show to end when they wanted. Still a great show.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 2

lets just say the second season is going to be garbage unless they change from the manga

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

That's any adaptation though. AoT started strong and quickly became mediocre.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 2

It wasn't BAD bad, just underwhelming. Could have been a 10, was a 7. I believe the proper term would be "overrated'.

10 years ago | Likes 302 Dislikes 50

Amazing action scenes and a cool story, but I wanted the main character to die just so he'd stop whining. 7/10 is accurate.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I would also like to add that I found it overhyped and above average. I liked it, but I thought it was going to be better based on reviews

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

My god, OP was cool today

10 years ago | Likes 143 Dislikes 3

Did you see where he saw through Attack on Titan? Woah...! I mean, he's got some serious anime critic prowess!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 3

1/2 I rate shows on wether or not I remember what happened, even if it's a really decent one. I can't remember Gilty Crown (=7), AoT

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/2 AoT however I remember lots so it's an 8 or 9. FMAB I can rewrite like Mozart could rewrite tunes. Solid 10 in other words ^_^

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

2/2 but I just thought the plot and characters were bland.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Well, I never could stand Japanese culture until my friend finally convinced me to watch AoT. Short story short, I plan on watching more.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I don't know if it's just their dialect or bad translation, but to me characters seem way to dramatic about everything.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Overrated, babby's first, kinna edgy. But not 2edgy, TBF a great Casual's/Normal's pick, I can't in good conscience call it "bad".

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

I agree some of the characters are a little flat, but it's still a solid 9/10 for me. To each their own!

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

Honestly couldn't finish it, I lost interest at around episode 14 or 16. Great animation, and I loved how the characters weren't immortal

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

See that surprises me. Because that's one of the few animes out recently that I thought was genuinely edge of seat worthy.

10 years ago | Likes 43 Dislikes 10

Nah, every character is flat and I've predicted many major plot points. I was reading the manga and had to stop because it was more of that.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

mobile suit gundam iron blooded orphans go watch

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

the animation is fun and the world building is compelling, but the characters are flat and there's just not enough intrigue in the plot

10 years ago | Likes 8 Dislikes 1

I think it would've been great if eren stayed dead after ep 5. He is a terrible mc, and attack would have become anime game of thrones.

10 years ago | Likes 7 Dislikes 2

that's exactly what i thought at that point of the series. it could have been an interesting turn from average people surviving everything

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

It was good for a while, then it fell into shounen cliches, slowed down, and became overtalked. I've caught up with the manga and it's meh.

10 years ago | Likes 42 Dislikes 8

Oh and not to forget constant cliffhangers! That's what really turned me off in the end

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 1

Really? The manga has had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. I hate shounen cliches and I haven't seen too many in the manga.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

AoT is still amazing, they just finished a huge story arc and you complain about shounen? that makes no sense.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

i do worry about the next season because of that tho.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

It also failed to focus on Sasha, who as we all know is clearly the best part of the show.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

This "fell into shounen cliches" is a really bad thing.. Kind of makes Berserk a 9/10 eventhough it could have easily been a 11/10.

10 years ago | Likes 10 Dislikes 1

I have made this exact argument, and I love AoT. There is nothing wrong with being a 7, but don't talk about it like it's a 10.

10 years ago | Likes 14 Dislikes 5

just curious, but why do ppl hate on SAO now, but not AoT? Considering both were extremely popular when they launched.

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 2

AOT had a great setup and became just "good" over time. SAO had a cool setup and then shat its pants.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

SAO started off as if it would have strong interesting characters and then it became a wish fulfillment, weak females harem stereotype

10 years ago | Likes 11 Dislikes 0

I will say that the very last arc "mother's Rosario" redeemed it a bit in my eyes

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

People always hated both. The difference is SAO was always awful (cardboard viewer-insert hero, vapid female side-kicks meant only to [1/2]

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

decorate him, etc.) while AoT started great and then fell to pieces after a few arcs (specifically the first one after the show ends.) [2/2]

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

SAO has a main character that gets powers NOBODY else in the show gets, for NO reason. The "marriage" break in the middle of part 1 was 1/2

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 0

2/2 Pretty freaking bad, and don't even talk about part two. The show should have ended when the world ended in part 1.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 0

I only watched the pilot of AoT when it first came out and didn't finish cuz it never hooked me in like SAO did.

10 years ago | Likes 2 Dislikes 1

IMO, the hook in AoT is actually in the 2nd or 3rd episode.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

For the record, I've disliked SAO for a long time. Couldn't make it halfway through season one. Are people really 'hating' on it now?

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

And usually I'm the one who has to rag on "popular" shows. So just didn't know a lot of people didn't like it that much is all.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 3

Hey, I've got a hate boner for Code Geass and didn't really like Steins;Gate. We could form our own little clique!

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Any anime website comment section shares that opinion. Aggressively, in most cases. You're more under attack if you liked AoT.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I think it was one of those shows that was amazing...... until the end of the first story arc.

10 years ago | Likes 4 Dislikes 1

All I want is another season of Knights of Sidonia. IS THAT REALLY SO MUCH TO ASK.

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

I'm really hoping that is the case (S3 being "done"), Season 2 ended with a very satisfying battle, but SUCH a plot cliffhanger! NEED MORE!

10 years ago | Likes 3 Dislikes 0

I read through the news section of the Japanese official site for Sidonia (where I saw it) for a while in search of it but to no avail...

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

Perhaps I was mistaken, or they removed the post, or I just missed it... Either way though, I suppose we'll find out eventually =)

10 years ago | Likes 1 Dislikes 0

That's absolutely not how it went

It's one of the longest running manga in Jump, because the switch to all new characters keeps things fresh. 2,5,7 are probably my favourites

The story is set in arcs, with a new "JoJo" per arc. So far Jonathan vs Dio, Joseph vs Pillar Men, Jotaro vs DIO is done, Josuke vs Kira now

I've seen the first, sexcond and third then. But not the second season of Jotaro vs DIO. That's where I kinda lost interest
